We received this request from a student and I think it's a great idea.

Background:

The Help menu within Canvas currently has a field to "Ask Your Instructor A Question" where it will automatically open up a side panel where you can select a course and it will message all of the instructors in that particular course. The default right now is that it selects the topmost course in the alphabetized list.

Request:

It has been requested that the course is dynamic in that if the student is in their math course, the class is automatically selected from the list of courses. Because a student's list of courses could be fairly lengthy, this would help the usability of the feature while saving them clicks and time. If the student is on their dashboard when they click "Ask your instructor" instead of a class, the default could then be alphabetical (as it is now).

Here is the student's original request:

"Can you please improve the messaging functionality in the Help Menu? It would be extremely helpful if for instance If my current selected class was MATH 100 and I decided to ask my teacher a question, that when I clicked Ask my instructor that the 'TO' party in the recipient selection would reflect my selected class as the first choice in the list so that I don't send my math question to LIbrary.(Which is first alphabetically). This is a super simple fix and would drastically improve this experience. If there is no selected class just default to alphabetical order."
