Yes, you can record a PowerPoint presentation to show only the slides while using a single monitor on a Windows operating system. The key is to use the "Browsed by an individual (window)" setting (within PowerPoint), which allows the slide show to run in a resizable window instead of a full-screen, dedicated mode. This prevents the presenter view (with notes and upcoming slides) from automatically appearing.

How to Record with a Single Monitor 🖥

Follow these steps to set up your presentation and recording to show only the slides:

  1. Open PowerPoint and access the "Set Up Slide Show" menu.

    • Navigate to the Slide Show tab in the ribbon.

    • Click on Set Up Slide Show in the Set Up group.

  2. Adjust the show type.

    • In the "Set Up Show" dialog box, under the Show type section, select Browsed by an individual (window).

    • This setting forces the presentation to run in a window, giving you more control over what is displayed on your single screen.

  3. Start the slide show.

    • Click OK to close the "Set Up Show" window.

    • Start your presentation by clicking From Beginning or the Slide Show icon at the bottom of the PowerPoint window. Your slides will now appear in a window, not full-screen.

  4. Open Canvas Studio.

    • With the slide show window open, launch Canvas Studio.

    • In your recording settings, choose to capture the specific PowerPoint window that contains your slide show. This ensures your notes, the PowerPoint ribbon, or any other windows on your desktop aren't included in the final recording.
