Hi erinhallmark, I wanted some clarification on the DocViewer not being available in beta environments. It's quite frustrating. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the reason before was that Crocadoc Document Viewer required additional licenses that Instructure didn't want to pay for beta and test environments. Since the DocViewer is created/maintained by Instructure, why is it not now included in beta and test environments? Thanks, Jonathan

A friend a Instructure has made a javascript GitHub that allows you to modify the Add People dialogue box. We have yet to try it but you may want to give it a go: Modify the Add People Window: https://github.com/unsupported/canvas/tree/master/branding/changes_to_add_people @buddyhall and ninafox, you may want to take a look at it.

Hi @buddyhall and ninafox Turns out our developer is still working on it. When Instructure updated the Add People dialogue box, they added in some different pathing that messed up the code we were using to patch the effects of this last update (e.g., clicking the Start Over button reverts the Add People box back to the new method, if a user doesn't exist the new feature lets ANY ADMIN add in a new user into Canvas... which is a big "no no" here). We are still working on our javascript patch due to the above complications and will be bringing this up to our Customer Success Manager. Needless to say, this change is not helpful and was sprung on us with not enough notice and has made things far more complicated.

I agree that the change to the Add People function came as quite a shock and caused us to do some last minute scrambling. We use some custom javascript to change the text in the Add People window to reflect our institutional terminology.

Canvas allows for differentiated assignments; however, notifications for differentiated assignments go out to the entire class and not just the recipients of the differentiated assignments. So even if an assignment is differentiated (say in a multi-section course), notifications about that assignment, such as unmuting, will go to the entire class and not just the section for which the assignment is differentiated. Let's say that you have a multi-section course with multiple instructors. Instructor A teaches Section A and Instructor B teaches Section B. Both instructors have a "Final" assignment (one for A and one for B) that are differentiated for their sections respectively. When Instructor A unmutes her assignment, all the students in sections A and B receive the notification that the assignment has been unmuted and their grades are ready EVEN IF the final for Section B is still muted. This causes great confusion for the students from Section B. Please make it so that notifications for differentiated assignments are only sent to the students affected by the assignment.
