@James I would use this when copying a course to use as a template for a different course. I might want to keep several pages but delete most. A "select all" would help a lot. I would also use it when I accidentally import a lot of pages but don't want to delete my assignments or wait for admin to reset the course.

@mglodo James Jones' solution does work really well for this, though I would like to see Canvas implement it natively. I still don't consider the peer reviews in Canvas usable (due to things like usable rubrics and notification overkill—feel free to vote on these requests too!), and have gone back to doing peer reviews through small group discussions instead.

@Katrina-Hess Your list of notifications includes both:
Annotation Notification
and
Submission Comment
In my notification settings, I no longer see an option for "Annotation Notification." But when I disable "Submission Comment" I no longer receive notifications for annotations. Is this a deliberate reduction of granular control? I would like to be able to customize each of these independently.

A colleague of mine just told me her Canvas had started acting this way. I didn't believe her (I was still receiving immediate comment notifications and daily annotation notifications), so I messed around with my Notification settings for "Submission comment." When I switched it off and added comments and annotations in the Student View, I no longer received notifications for either. When I switched it back on again to "immediately," I received notifications for both. Is there no way to control these separately, as there used to be?

I use group discussions in my composition classes. Groups are an essential feature in my class for things like peer review (another poorly-supported feature: Add due date for completing peer review), which I manage through discussions. I have noticed that if I only use the default group set "Project groups" and add students manually to each group, Canvas retains the proper group assignments in the assignment settings. However, if I use any other name for my group sets, I have to manually reassign each group assignment each quarter for each class. I also like to assign the groups randomly, which always creates a new group set, meaning I can't easily use the "Project groups" option. I assign a different set of groups for each of the three essays in my class, so students get a chance to work with a different set of peers. I need the course import to copy the group names and sets so I don't have to manually reassign them all the time.

I like this, except would students have to click "view submission" to see instructor in-text comments/annotations? I leave a lot of feedback there, and many students never find it unless I teach them where to look. I don't think many would. Maybe "view submission/instructor comments"? But that's long...

+1 for more usable rubrics. I generally compose my rubrics first in Excel (or Google Sheets) anyway, then copy and paste into Canvas. I'd love a .csv import option. But that's a separate issue...

Answer to my own question (now that people have turned assignments in!)--making it a group assignment still has the intended effect of making it a group assignment. This means (I think) peer reviews can be assigned, but each group member will see the file submitted on behalf of their own group. I'm not sure I can envision an assignment where this would be useful, so I would not check Group Assignment in the future. I think I just did it because your video showed it.

Thanks for the reply! Do you know what the result of making it a group vs non-group assignment would be? Normally, with group assignments, one person completes on behalf of the whole group, but your script seems to set it back to completion at the individual level.

Hi Erin, I finally got a chance to check out the improvements. It definitely looks like it works a bit better. I like how the link position is adjusted when the window is resized. On a large screen, the link can look a bit lost: I still wish students didn't have to make the extra click, and that they got something that just looked like the SpeedGrader as soon as they clicked the assignment in their gradebook. As it is, when they click the assignment name, they get a title, a grade, a time of submission, and instructor comments on the far right side. There is a lot of empty white space. When they click "View Feedback," they get a preview of their file surrounded by a lot of unnecessary gray space. What prevents the white space from being replaced by a Doc Viewer view? Why the extra click? Also, from the point of view of Instructure, why maintain two separate interfaces for viewing and leaving feedback when the SpeedGrader view is far superior and would work great as is for students? Anyway, thanks again for keeping this updated.
