I was hopeful when I got this message but still these new analytics are not very useful, unfortunately. Now I can see that the course page "First Germanic Sound Shift" was viewed by 28 students during week 2, and that it had 67 views. OK, but I still don't know WHICH students looked at it (and which didn't), or when. Days before the associated assignment was due? Ten minutes before it was due? After it was due? I mean, at least I know the page is being looked at, but I would very much like to access the information I listed in my original idea 5 years ago. The information was available from our previous LMS, so it must be possible to provide . . . and I definitely notice the lack. Thanks to Canvas for taking a small step in the right direction, though.

"recreating basic operating system functionality (entering text) inside a specific application, the LMS in this case, isn't ideal." Speaking as someone who teaches students to use the character map, I can tell you that it isn't ideal either. My students often need special characters on quizzes, and they don't compose those answers in Word or Google Docs first, nor should they (too cumbersome for short answer questions). It can be quite difficult to find the characters you need on the character map. This doesn't mean that the solution proposed here is the best of all possible solutions. But it does mean that the problem is not solved by the existence of the character map.

Yes, it takes a long time to mute/unmute assignments singly. Three mouse clicks per assignment means lots of clicks every semester. I'd love to be able to import the assignments already muted, or at least to have an option to mute multiple assignments at once.

As I mute assignments for the upcoming semester . . . one assignment at a time, three clicks per assignment . . . I long for a way to "mute all" at once. Or maybe "select all," then mute/unmute the assignments I've selected. My mouse button fingers are getting tired!

I'm pretty sure this is possible, but I don't know how to do it right now . . . I'm just throwing it out there . . . it would be great if this spreadsheet could somehow flag the assignments where the "available" dates are mismatched to the due dates. At least one of my courses imported poorly this semester, and assignments were out of order. I dragged them around on the calendar and now I'm trying to fix all the "available until" problems that resulted. I can do it by eyeballing the dates, but if the assignments that had problems would be highlighted somehow, it would be easier. For example, an assignment might have a due date of Oct 2 but the availability might close Oct 1, because the due date changes when you drag something on the calendar but the available until dates do not change. Maybe this spreadsheet could highlight those problems in yellow or something?

Another advantage would be that tech support is available for Canvas, but not for Google Forms. I use Google Forms within assignments and like them, but the tech support burden falls on me.

Thanks for this alert. The script updated on Chrome automatically and it was easy to manually update my include statements and the other settings.

What seemed to do the trick for me was switching browsers. In the past, I'd had trouble getting Chrome to cooperate with GoogleDocs (crazy, I know) so I was using Firefox anytime I was dealing with a Google Form or Sheet or Doc. At James' suggestion, I gave Chrome another chance, followed everything from step one, and the "Configure API" script worked. Now that the access token has been imported, I find I can specify the course from either Chrome or Firefox with no problems. (I hope the solution is this easy for you!)

OK, here's where I am: 1. I definitely was running Configure API before Specify Course 2. My LMS admin says, "Our Canvas instance is hosted by Instructure. We are not self-hosted." 3. I ran Configure API again, did not get a "success" message. Opened script editor, pressed ctrl-enter and got the message "No user logs found. Please run your script and try again." Then I tried running Specify Course, pressed ctrl-enter and got the message "[17-01-13 13:41:48:001 PST] InternalError: Cannot find method alert(string,string)."

My campus URL is https://webcourses.ucf.edu/ I can't get this to work . . . I enter the URL and the access token, but I never get a success message, and when I try to Specify Course, the script asks me to configure the API access again. I've tried both with and without the https:// part. (Now that I've seen the demo I want to use it even more!)

I just tried this for the first time and can't get my assignment dates to load. At some point I was asked for permissions, which I gave, and I do get "running script" and "script finished" messages, but no magic happens in the Dates spreadsheet. It just stays blank except for the Canvas Course ID I entered into cell A1. I thought maybe the problem was that my assignments were muted, so I unmuted a couple of them but still had no luck loading dates. I'm crunched for time, as I imagine we all are, and will just adjust dates the old-fashioned way, but someday, @James , if you have a chance to send me some trouble-shooting advice, I'd be grateful.
