I began my law enforcement career in 1979 at Emporia State University. I joined the Emporia Police Department in 1981 and was promoted to sergeant in 1986. My experience was mainly in Operations (patrol) with short assignments in Investigations, SWAT and other areas. I was assigned as the Training Director for EPD in 1994. I am an FBI certified Hostage Negotiator. I am also certified by the National Law Enforcement Training Center to train officers in Hate Crimes, Domestic Terrorism and Domestic Violence. I received a BS in Business in 1993 and a MS in Instructional Design and Technology in 2007. I designed and maintained a computer-based online training system for the EPD. I have provided in-service training to state and local law enforcement officers. I have been an adjunct instructor for the University of Phoenix since 2007. My course assignments have included introductory courses in: Criminal Justice, Corrections, Criminal Court System, Juvenile Justice and Policing. I retired from EPD in 2012. I began a second career as an Instructional Designer and LMS administrator at Emporia State University in May of 2012. I provide training and assistance to faculty,students an staff at ESU on all things related to learning technology and instructional design. This includes technology enhanced classroom and distance education support.
