Kamal Hennayake, Professor of Mathematics, came to Chesapeake College in 2000. Before that he was an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at College of West Virginia. He earned his PhD in Mathematics at West Virginia University. His PhD dissertation was in the area of Graph Theory and Combinatorial Mathematics. He has several publications in this field.
He is committed to providing quality learning material from OER (Open Educational Resources). He's encouragement in ORE made most of the mathematics courses adapting free textbooks and MyOpenMath for the Chesapeake College math department.
He is passionate about teaching and learning. Moreover, he designed Chesapeake’s first mathematics online course. He is a Quality Matters peer reviewer and his online college algebra course is approved by Maryland Online Quality Matters. He represents Chesapeake College in State Wide Math Group. He supports Common Core Curriculum and participates in PARCC meetings. He was one of the leading members of the Project Synergy. Also, he was a Project NExT fellow, Class of 2003.
