Yes! Our teachers would like to use the Gradebook data to plan for differentiation and filtering would be a great help.

@stacy_lambert & @jayoder - yes this is an ongoing question for our district as we move forward to roll out 1:1 at all our schools. We have all of our HS and this year we've brought in our MS - next year we start with our ES. It is a true statement that the wish if for tech to be "magically" perfect, with no learning curve or troubles. (I remember having trouble with the ink in the mimeograph machine, but no one was saying we needed to go back to hand written work sheets. LOL) I like the reminder to start smart (saving time & improving productivity) and small. (Don't eat the entire Golden Coral Buffet, but the small plates that make sense.) I too would like to use this blog for future PD with our staff. Thanks for putting it out there!

This is such a impactful blog post - I too have had students who fell through the cracks and it is a heart breaker. There have been times when I've been able to catch a student before the fall. Most times, the insight into the student came through an unexpected moment of connection. Thank you Wasi Khan for boldly sharing this.

amandabass, this is going to be a very helpful discussion. Our large K-12 school district has adopted Canvas teachers and administrators at all levels will be building content to be shared with students and staff. One thing our district did was provide templates to help users get started. The templates include several of the elements you listed: district branding, outline of suggested components, resources in Commons. You also had the good idea to suggest elements to allow instructors to make choices that make sense for their instruction. Our district is recommending that teachers include calendar items, a syllabus and one posting (discussion, quiz, link, etc.) to begin the first quarter. (It will be different for higher ed.) When I build a course I like to have checks for understanding that are self correcting - even when I can monitor, participants get the feedback needed. I'll look forward to seeing what others recommend here.

Thank you for starting this discussion! There are so many good resources for project based learning and that cover content standards, teach life skills and are meaningful for students. One of my new favorites is Applied Digital Curriculum. It's a free resource that guides students using digital tools to solve real world problems. It is self directed with teacher faciliation. Since Google & Canvas play well together, it's a good match! Here's the link: https://applieddigitalskills.withgoogle.com/

I've just finished watching the Series presented by @ndemas and @biray . This series comes at a very good time as our district has adopted G Suite for Education and this fall (Aug. 2017) we will roll out Canvas. I would like to include some real classroom examples to share with teachers. Specifically I would like to share examples of using the combination of these tools for differentiation in K-12. I have found the Canvas Community to be very supportive and helpful - so I am looking forward to learning from those who have experience.

Yes, @Stephanie Wilson, if you go to @Canvas Training you can look for upcoming events. All sorts of topics, dates & times. You can also search Guides for tips & directions. (This is one of my favorite go-to places for specific tasks. Another source would be Canvas FastTrack Series. (This is another place for a quick tutorial on specific tools in Canvas.)
