Ok, I know this is an old post and nobody responded but I'm curious if you were able to fix this. If I had to guess the reason why this didn't work for some of the students is that they haven't logged into Canvas their first time yet and clicked the Authorize prompt they get the first time. We're trying to work around this now with a pass for students from our student portal into Canvas. If I'm correct and you were able to come up with a way to do this please let me know.

We've been launching jQueryUI tools in our custom JS file in Canvas for pretty much since we went live 6 years ago. A couple of weeks ago it came to my attention that a user was having a problem with their screen freezing when they would close an announcement from the dashboard. After much troubleshooting and some back and forth with Instructure support I've isolated the problem to our launch of jQueryUI tools. My guess is that Canvas is launching jQueryUI tools natively and ours is conflicting causing the problem. Has anyone else had this issue or one like it?

Also these filters should behave like the one's in the Courses area. So when you click the term drop down it displays the current running term at the top so it's easier to find.

Hi, we're seeing this problem with one of our students here as well. Instructure I guess has gotten a few of these in tickets because they took our ticket and connected it to a larger troubleshooting and we're waiting to hear from them. Though in the past these kind of problems can take months to get a fix out, just FYI.

Hello, Yes we've accommodated for as many of these as possible. We added several customizations to our threads such as a warning message of Are you Sure? if someone tries to get off a page without saving their post. We also added the ability to save their post without posting it so they could come back and finish it when ready. Since we've had this for years we do see that the users were in their thread on the day they said they posted in several examples but it still doesn't help identify what happened because like you said there are a bunch of factors. We've recently ran some analytics about these tickets and we're getting around 200 of them per month which is a lot more than I'd expect to get.

We've been using Canvas since July of 2017 and ever since then we continually get reports from our students that they've posted something in a discussion thread and it is now missing. It doesn't matter if they reply to the main topic or another persons posts it just disappears. We've had several tickets opened with Instructure support but they've been unable to find anything. We've seen this with the app and pc posts. Do any of you also see this problem in your Canvas instance?

Would it be possible for Instructure to add a Preferred name field in Canvas that is displayed everywhere in canvas for the student? For us changing the actual user name isn't an option because a students name/email is used to create accounts for them in our third party tools. If a change was made after the fact it could break their existing account away from them or it would even be difficult to complete research requests if the name is one way in Canvas and another in the third party system. So having a new field of Preferred Name in Canvas would be a good way to go.

I would like to request a new report based off of LTI tools in Canvas. Here at our University we have many LTI tools. Over the years some of these tools have been replaced with a newer version of the vendor's technology which requires us to add a new tool or we've chosen to part ways with a vendor. This leaves us with some tools that can be deleted once a certain amount of time has passed. Currently there isn't a way with the existing reports to find out the last time one of the LTI tools were used. I would like a new report that lists all of the LTI tools that are in Canvas along with the date and course that they were last used in. This will help us keep track of these tools so we can safely delete them from Canvas once, if any, regulatory expirations run out.

Yes, we're seeing this as well but on a smaller reported scale. Hello Everyone, There was an update to Chrome in the last couple day's that is causing issues with our Canvas system. What students are reporting is that when accessing class assignments that link to a 3rd party LTI tool, the link is missing. We've been able to replicate this ourselves but other than asking students to use a different browser we have no way to resolve it. About 65% of our users, students and faculty, use Chrome because it's generally the optimum way to use Canvas. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue? Have you found anything about getting it resolved quickly? Thanks, Dean

We have several custom code feature adds to our discussion post area. So here is one comment and several of the items we've added that I think would be beneficial if it was core code. 1. I'd remove the ability to thumb down a comment. I don't think this would be beneficial in a higher education environment. 2. Adding "Teacher" or "Professor" next to the persons name is ok however we have custom code that boxes the professors comment box in yellow. This is much easier to see for a student than what you're recommending. 3. We added a save in place feature so a student could start typing a discussion post, save it, then pull it up to complete later without submitting it. 4. We added to buttons, one for "Show my posts", and another for "Show Instructor's Posts". This way students can see how many times they've posted in case they forgot or can filter by the instructors posts so they know which ones are new that they should respond to.

When you use the Blueprint feature in Canvas you get a sync log to show which child courses were successfully updated. It also shows which ones could not be updated. If there was a way to download that log to a csv file or Word file that would help a lot when working on the courses that still need to be updated.

I don't think their configuration marks something as link able in the External Tools area. If so they all have it on by default. And trying to get every vendor to make this change would be impossible where Instructure can add an option box in the config area.

Hello, The external tools box inside course content needs a search feature so we can pick from our list of Apps which exceed 260 at this time. Please add a search box in the "Find" area of External Tool links.

Hello, Please provide a check box when configuring or editing an App to pick weather or not you'd like it to show in the External Tool Options in a course. We have over 260 apps in our Canvas system, because of this we have to add an asterisk to the name of Apps that are used to link content in a course. Not all Apps are needed for this so to keep the External Tool list shorter if you could configure an App to show in External Tools or not using a check box or slide button that would help us out tremendously.

Hi Everyone, We're working to enhance our data collection by adding some additional information to our API queries but I'm having difficulties finding it. Specifically we're looking for a students current grade and score. I did find a reference to them in the Enrollment table however when we query those columns they only have NULL values. Does anyone have an answer to this? Thanks, Dean

We have Instructor Insight and Dropout Detective, we've been using II for a while and are quite happy with it. DD for us is new and we're going through a pilot right now but so far we're getting good results. The implementation was quick and easy without issue. The support is also great because they're quick to respond and knowledgeable about their system and how best to use it.

Instructure has provided some documentation on how to add additional tagging but we'd really like to see if anyone else has gone down this road that could help or provide guidance so we could save time.
