Problem statement:
Currently, cross-listing of sections is grouped with renaming course sections and changing start and end dates of sections in the sub-permission of Course Sections - edit within the "Manage Course Sections" permission in Course Roles. Cross-listing can be problematic if a user has not been trained to do this causing issues with courses. An inexperienced/untrained user could easily cross-list a section into the incorrect course and this can be difficult to fix.
Proposed solution:
I would like to see cross-listing separated out from Course Sections - edit. Cross-listing is not actually "editing" a section. Cross-listing needs to be it's own sub-permission under "Manage Course Sections" in Course Roles.
User role(s):
admin,instructor,designer

It would be really great if there would be a permission option to enable that was just "Student View" for the admin roles that need to see the course from a student view, but do not need/should not have the add/edit/delete course content permisson. We have created custom roles where accessing "Student View" would be very beneficial, but they should not be adding/editing/deleting course content, etc. Please create a separate "Student View" permission that can be enacted for different admin roles. Thanks!

Our observers (and students) can see this coming school year's courses in their course list. They are students or observers in the courses and the courses are unpublished, but they are appearing on their course lists. Since they are unpublished, they cannot click into the course, but they can see the course names (which includes teacher last names) and our district really does not want students and parents/guardians to see what courses and teachers students have until the term starts. We need the option where observers cannot view the courses until the students have access. In our root account settings, we have it set to "Restrict students from accessing courses before start date" and the "Lock this setting for sub-accounts and courses" as well, but they can still see the courses in their course list. As @TonyRomero stated, terms have been checked and there is no setting for restricting observers like there is for students, teachers, etc. We as a K12 district need the option to restrict observers.

@MPioRoda @aleveritt I agree--New Quizzes needs to be able to be used with monitoring programs. We are a PK-12 district and use Hapara to monitor our students when on their Chromebooks and it doesn't work with New Quizzes. I hope it will be functional with Hapara soon. Thanks!

@LauraRO_TEIDE @TamasBalogh I also have instructors in world language having the same issue with specific language characters, accents, etc. in New Quizzes. When they surround the word with backticks to show where a student will fill in the answer, it doesn't work correctly (doesn't recognize the word). Please help. Thanks!

@hlovett I was informed there currently is a work around that allows you to attach a rubric to the assignment... Create the new assignment and add in all details/descriptions/points, etc. Choose a submission type (like online) that allows a rubric to be attached. Attach the rubric to the assignment and save. Go back into the assignment and change the submission type to the external tool, Google Assignments LTI 1.3. Save the assignment. The rubric will "disappear," but it still there and visible in SpeedGrader.

Our district uses Canvas rubrics to score summative assessments (ie: quizzes). We have been using rubrics to score quizzes (both classic and new) since we started using Canvas, but began experiencing "glitches" with rubrics attached to New Quizzes in the Spring of 2021 where the rubric score entered for the New Quiz would revert to the original New Quiz numeric score. The instructor then must go back into the individual student quiz and re-enter the rubric score to get it to "stick." It doesn't always happen, but often enough to cause problems. This is a serious work flow issue and wastes time, which is frustrating for our instructors. It also causes the gradebook to be incorrect and makes student grades inaccurate. We need Canvas rubrics to work well with New Quizzes as our standards-based courses use rubrics for grading New Quiz assessments.

@benjamin_rodrig Yes, I am referring to the +Rubric and using a Canvas created rubric. Instructors have assigned outcomes to specific questions in other New Quizzes, but mostly there is a rubric attached to the New Quiz.

@Ron_Bowman Yes, that is my understanding of how that works when a quiz is used. There is a certain standard assessed and the numeric score from the quiz is converted into the 1-4 score. Your example of 90% would fall into the numeric category of 4. There is a percentage/score cut off for each number 1-4.
Students can see their actual score when they look at the quiz, but the rubric score is what is reported in the gradebook and what shows up on their grade summary.

@themidiman The purpose of using rubrics in my district is for standards-based grading. The final quiz score (classic or new) would be converted into a 1-4 score to be reported based on the standards/outcomes being assessed. This is especially helpful if the learning mastery gradebook is being used. In our standards-based courses, all scores must in the 1-4 scale. I hope this helps clarify.

This would be great! It is frustrating that other options are given as middle school students often do not listen to/follow directions and will choose the other file options despite being given explicit instructions to use Studio to create their video and submit it correctly. Please give the option to limit file uploads to just Canvas Studio. Thanks!!

@BenFriedman While we have used outcome alignment in the past and some instructors still use it, our district has build our standards based coursework around the use of specific rubrics (with the standards/outcomes added to those rubrics) and attaching it to the quiz assessment (a New Quiz). This past spring (2021), this started to be an issue and many instructors experienced a problem with using the rubric to override the New Quiz score in Speedgrader. They could do it, but it would revert back to the original New Quiz score and they would have to go back in and regrade it a second time. It seemed that score would hold, but made for double the work and time for grading. We have been asking for this issue to be resolved and allow rubrics to be used with New Quizzes correctly and consistently but continue to get the response that this is not a functionality of New Quizzes... but we have been doing this for two years! We then were told this is a "bug" in New Quizzes and should not be happening--we need this to happen, so can the "bug" be left and allow us to use a rubric to override the New Quiz score on the first grading go around... please? I appreciate your time and hope you understand how much we need this to happen (we really cannot be the only district using rubrics to override scores in New Quizzes). Thank you.
