Problem statement:   We can find users who are administrators of the platform at different levels and who are also students. When this happens, when the user accesses the course where they are a student and completes an activity, they do not have the option to complete the activity, only to edit it. Roles are in conflict, and the role of administrator is sometimes stronger. This is a problem because administrator users cannot study on the platform and consequently in our institution.   Proposed solution: All users should be able to study on the platform on equal terms with other users who do not manage the platform, so when a user has an account administrator role and is enrolled as a student in a course when the user accesses the course, the user should act as a student and not with administrator permissions. While realising that the behaviour is understandable as the administrator has all the permissions, when a person joins a course as a student, this should be the permission that takes first priority.   User role(s): admin,instructor,student,ta,designer,observer ... Need The canvas gradebook should incorporate an automatic minimum grade requirement for certain activities and/or groups of activities in order to be able to pass a set of activities.  We have found, surfing through the community, some things that are close to our need but do not give the definitive solution, for this reason we demand that there should be an additional field in the configuration of the activities and/or group of activities that allows us to define the minimum grade to pass the activity in question.  At the same time, this would apply the corresponding logic in the gradebook to calculate the final grade.  For example, if we get less than a 4 in an activity and this means that the course is not passed, the gradebook should act in this way in its grading. As it is currently done in how it is calculated, the average grade can be passed.  Why The reason for this is that in many cases, although the student has failed because he/she has not exceeded the established average, Canvas calculates him/her as a pass because this is the natural way of calculating the average mark. And it makes the calculation independently of the minimum pass mark.  Activities or groups of activities can sometimes be grouped according to their importance. If a student does not pass some activities or group of activities, it is considered that he/she has not acquired the minimum knowledge and therefore cannot pass the subject.  We know that there is an override column among several other options, but it does not work for a set of activities. And therefore it does not solve the problem of the groups of activities, only of the final mark, which would also have to be manual and different from the natural weighting of canvas. This leads to confusion for the student.  Advantages This would make the calculation of grades much more realistic.  It would be adapted to the pedagogical needs of the different institutions.  The student would see his or her mark clearly and it would not have to be modified by the professor.  There would be more transparency in grading and the totals would not have to be hidden from the students to avoid confusion. ____________________________________________________________________________ Nos gustaría compartir esta idea o solicitud de mejora con todos. Nos encantaría escuchar que piensan.   Necesidad:  Que el gradebook de canvas incorpore  un comportamiento automático de nota mínima en algunas actividades determinadas y/o grupos de actividades  para poder aprobar un conjunto de actividades.  Hemos encontrado, navegando por la comunidad, algunas cosas que se aproximan a nuestra necesidad pero no dan con la  solución definitiva.Es por eso que demandamos que exista un campo adicional en la configuración de las actividades y/o grupo de actividades que permita definir la nota mínima para aprobar dicha actividad.  Y que esta a su vez aplique la lógica correspondiente en el gradebook para calcular la nota final.  Si por ejemplo si sacamos menos de un 4 en una actividad y eso significa que la asignatura no queda aprobada, que así actúe el gradebook en su ponderación. Ya que actualmente tal y como pondera, la media puede salir aprobada.    ¿Por qué? Nos encontramos con esta demanda pues en muchos casos, aunque el alumno esté suspendido porque no ha superado la media establecida, canvas lo pondera como aprobado pues su manera natural de calcular la nota media es así. Y él hace cálculo independientemente de la nota mínima para aprobar.  Las actividades o grupos de actividades a veces se pueden agrupar en función de su importancia. Si un alumno no aprueba algunas actividades o grupo de actividades, se considera que no ha adquirido los conocimientos mínimos y por tanto no puede aprobar la asignatura.  Sabemos que existe la columna anular entre otras varias opciones, pero esta no sirve para un conjunto de actividades. Y por tanto no soluciona el problema de los grupos de actividades, sólo de la nota final que además tendría que ser manual y diferente a la ponderación natural de canvas. Lo que lleva a confusiones por parte del alumno.    Ventajas De esta manera el cálculo de las notas sería mucho más realista.  Se adaptaría a las necesidades pedagógicas de la Universidad.  El alumno vería clara su nota y no debería ser modificada por el profesor.  Habría más transparencia a la hora de ponderar y no como ahora que se ocultan los totales para no crear confusiones a los alumnos.  ¡Muchísimas gracias!   ... In other words, the teacher must be able to create content in the same course in different languages. This requires that the description and title fields can be written in different languages.   Why   Institutions can have courses in different languages without the necessity to create another course, allowing users to see the modules correctly in their language.   Advantatges   The name of the Modules are clear, otherwise it may cause confusion for the students. Para ello es necesario que los campos descripción y título permitan ser ingresados en diferentes idiomas.   ¿Por qué?   Las instituciones pueden tener cursos en diferentes idiomas sin necesidad de crear otro curso permitiendo que los usuarios vean los módulos correctamente en su idioma.   Ventajas   Clarid ad en el nombre de los bloques de Contenido (Módulos), de lo contrario puede llevar a  confusiones por parte del estudiante. Need Replace the first column of the Course syllabus (Date) with the assignment “Available from” date and name it as Start Date. Why Currently, the first column is Date, which is unclear to which date it refers. Additionally, two columns could be joined into one because they are the same thing (Date and Due). Also, this change will help the student plan better their activities. Advantages A detailed course summary eliminates the confusion of two separate columns to report the same. Necesidad En el resumen del curso se propone cambiar las columnas Fecha y Fecha de entrega por la información registrada en las actividades en los campos Disponible desde y Fecha de entrega, donde este último campo sea efectivamente la Fecha de entrega no solo la hora de entrega. Adicionalmente para una mayor claridad para el estudiante, se propone que el título de la columna con la información del campo Disponible desde sea visualizado como Fecha de inicio. Solución propuesta:   ¿Por qué? Actualmente, la primera columna se titula Fecha lo que no es claro a que fecha hace referencia para los estudiantes. Adicionalmente, existen dos columnas que podrían agruparse en una sola debido a que informan lo mismo (Fecha y Fecha de entrega). Finalmente, la columna Disponible desde (con título Fecha de inicio), ayudará al estudiante a planear sus actividades. Need Allow to create a custom role in different languages. The role must be the same but admins should be able to set it in different languages. Users will be able to see the role assigned to them in a course in the language they have configured. Currently, only Canvas default roles support multiple languages. For instance: Currently, the same name will be displayed for all users who have the role in any course regardless of the language set. Why Institutions may have courses in different languages. For these reasons, it would be nice to have the option to add these fields in different languages and allow users to see the role in their language. Advantages Role assigned in a course will be shown in the language set by the user, otherwise it can be confusing. Thank you. Please find here improvements required on the activity group grade column in the grade book: Need 1. Add a configuration option to override the activity group grade.  e.g.: This feature should be controlled by a configuration option that would indicate if users can override the grade created automatically for a group of activities. This config should be set in an activity group context, not in a course context. By default it should be disabled. Also, it will be great if this new feature can also be set (enabled or disabled) by API or mutation. 2. Allow to hide the activity group columns in the gradebook to the students. This new option to hide the  grade column can be set if the override option is previously enabled. Why The calculation rule for activity groups may be more complex than the way Canvas does it. Simple weighting does not meet the needs of some institutions when there are additional parameters in the calculation rule, for instance: offline activities. Also, hide the grade by the teacher would avoid confusion if there are external factors that affect the final grade. Advantages Flexibility. It will be possible to adjust the grade if there is an additional external element that could alter the final grade of a group of activities. Control according to the rules of the course. We'd love to hear your thoughts.   Need Improve the current Grading Scheme view allowing an additional field that is outside the current percentage range where a value can be set as custom value.   Why The final grade for some institutions needs to be set with a value different from the current scheme. For example I want to set the final grade as a non-numeric value that is not associated with any numeric value 0% to 100%.    Advantages Teachers can set a non-numeric value as final grade that is not based on the grading scheme numeric scale. Por ejemplo, quiero establecer la calificación final para un estudiante un valor no numérico que no está asociado con ningún valor numérico del 0 % al 100 %. Ventajas Los profesores pueden establecer un valor no numérico como calificación final que no se base en la escala numérica del esquema de calificación.
