I am an artist and educator. I grew up in Santa Monica; my parents are from San Luis Potosi, and my grandfather worked on the LA Railroad. I studied English and Chicana/o Studies at UC Berkeley, and have an MFA from UCLA film school and a PhD in English/rhetoric from UC Riverside. I am a board member for the Pico Youth and Family Center and co-founder of the Chicano Secret Service comedy group and the Xican@ Pop-Up Book arts group against book bans.
