Yup, this loss of comments entered in a rubric and all the scores when I first pressed 'Submit' to submit a comment on the Assignment *before* pressing Save for the rubric itself also happenned to me. Please fix this! The first order of business for a user interface is to RETAIN DATA that has been entered. Please build this into *all* Canvas pages where the possibility exists to lose significant amounts of data by an inadvertent click, or at least add a notification that loss of entered data is about to occur and give an option to go back and save.

I'm not seeing comments as to why this idea was Archived. Can you please indicate why? Loss of data identified by NicLSim is a problem because Comments, in for example, Rubrics, are not auto-saved. I just ran into this issue AGAIN, and it is super-frustrating to have spent a lot of time entering comments only to have them disappear if you navigate away from the page and you neglected to save. I'm resorting to typing all my comments outside of Canvas in a text editor that autosaves, so I don't lose data. Canvas would be better if it fixed this problem.

I would like to see improvements to the UI in Canvas when it comes to editing pages. I would like to see the 'buttons' controlling the UI, such as Save, Edit, etc. stay *statically located*, either in a ribbon at the top of the page or on a sidebar, so I don't have to scroll all the way up or all the way down pages that have lots of content and fill lots of vertical space to get to those controls. Along these lines, I notice when editing a page that contains a table, if I want to add a row at the bottom of the table, and I press the icon on the graphical pop-up ribbon to add a row, the UI jumps the screen focus to the top of the table. This is extremely annoying when editing a table with many rows. I would like to be able to go to a place in the table to add a row (which is usually at the bottom of the table) and have the screen keep focus at the row that was just added rather than jumping to the top of the table. I've also noticed that sometimes the graphical pop-up ribbon for table editing sometimes places itself awkwardly over a cell in a row added to the bottom of a table. This makes it difficult to see what I want to type in a cell of the row just added, because the pop-up ribbon is covering it. It would be nice to be able to re-position the pop-up ribbon, but that is not possible now. Thank you.

Has Canvas made any progress on this yet? It would help too if I could 'mass select' names via say a check-box from the full list of students in the course and have those fill the Assign To box instead of having to type one name at a time in with Canvas suggesting possible choices (requiring yet another click to select from list of possible choices) in order to populate the box. Very time consuming when you have a large class!

Yes, Antony, that is what I was thinking about; for an Assignment, not the whole Gradebook.

I wonder if the Canvas developers would consider adding something like the ability to upload a CSV file that would contain the names of students in the first column and the other parameters for the Assignment settings in the other columns. For any given assignment, the CSV file could have all the particular settings for any given student as a row in the file. This would allow instructors to easily duplicate information for other assignments by copying the file, making global Find-Replace changes in the CSV file, and uploading back to the Assignment. I think that the Canvas team needs to expand the capabilities of the user interface in general. For those of us who teach large classes, the time required for so many individual clicks and discreet entries multiplies unsustainably as the numbers go up.

Right on! 'Auto-save' should be standard for *all* editing functions in Canvas. I've been burned many times by the problem identified by the suggester, and it is very frustrating!! Similar problems occur elsewhere in Canvas, such as when editing Quiz questions, editing Assignments, creating an Announcement, etc. Auto-save occurs here in entering Ideas. Why not elsewhere?
