Dr. Jonan Phillip Donaldson is a learning scientist with a position as Assistant Professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Education where he is the coordinator for the M.S. in Learning Design & Learning Sciences program. He has a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Learning Technology from Drexel University. He has led faculty development workshops and taught courses in the learning sciences, educational research, technology, learning experience design, and critical pedagogy at Texas A&M University, Drexel University, Oregon State University, Western Oregon University, and other higher education institutions. His specialties include foundations of the learning sciences, design-based research, constructionist learning, critical pedagogy, epistemic learning, design thinking, and creativity. His current research involves using theory and methods from the learning sciences, complex systems theory, and other disciplines to investigate the relationship between conceptualizations of learning and practices in teaching and learning.
