Teachers using Canvas simply must have the option to eliminate one answer option. To not offer this does at least one of the following things, all of which are undesirable: 1) In order to most simply alter a test, it would require teachers & students to leave the Canvas instance by printing out a quiz and manually eliminating a solution. 2) Creating more work for the teachers by making multiple tests. One really wouldn't think this would be so hard to accomplish. There should be so many automation opportunities that support students with special needs. I wish you had at least on well versed special education teacher on your staff so that simple things like this could be anticipated rather than begged for years on end.

I simply cannot agree more with this request!!! Our Curriculum Director purchased MasteryConnect as an add-on for the campuses that administer classes via Canvas two years after purchasing the LMS itself. As a result, I am fielding questions from teachers about why after several years of creation of traditional Canvas Quizzes and their alignment of standards through Canvas "Outcomes," why these assessments can't be rolled right into Mastery Connect. Am I correct in thinking that as things stand now, all existing quizzes need to be recreated in Mastery Connect? It is my understanding that quizzes in MC roll into Canvas, but not the other way around. If this is correct, I absolutely understand my teachers' frustration about basically "starting over." If this large flaw isn't addressed, it clearly highlights the lack of understanding how essential this functioning is to teachers. While MasteryConnect appears to be a nice product IF it is implemented AT THE SAME TIME as Canvas LMS is, I imagine it can be a great tool; however, this lack of being able to roll existing quizzes from Canvas to MC indicates that teachers' time is not valuable and that they have an overabundance of time to recreate all formative quizzes twice. My request is two-fold. I implore you to advise the decision makers about this critical "quizzes to MC conversion flaw" when purchasing Canvas LMS. Had I been aware of this during the adoption of Canvas and known that my people additionally wanted MasteryConnect, I could have begged for MC's immediate purchase so this wouldn't be an issue for my teachers now. Please tell me that I'm misinformed or that this fix is in the works. I simply do not have the heart to tell my hard working teachers that they need to start all over again.

With all of the attention to New Quizzes, I wish you would also consider having the option of advancing quizzes stimulus by stimulus and not just by question by question. This would mean any given stimulus and ALL associated questions for that stimulus only would appear. In New Quiz Settings, teachers have the opportunity to advance the quiz one question at a time. However, oftentimes teachers will use a Stimulus and then multiple questions for that one stimulus. Additional functionality should be created to allow teachers to advance the quiz one stimulus section at a time. This clustering improvement would also lend itself well to having the stimulus & associated questions in the item bank having a permanent association with one another. This clearly should be a feature of new quizzes. It was important enough to be a facet of original quizzes, so when something is updated and improved, we shouldn't have to give up functionality that the prior tool gave us. This seems like a no brainer. I also believe the absence of this capability is what keeps a good number of my teachers from using new quizzes.

I am a Canvas admin I find myself helping staff by importing content from previously taught courses within departments and from teachers who have left the district. Teachers love this Canvas capability. However, when this is done with previously taught courses, the content is typically still published. There needs to be a quick and easy way to unpublish many items at one time. It is so easy to publish at once, but not the opposite. Of course we can unpublish the Module with one click, but the individual assignments and other course content are all still published allowing people to still see it in the individual course navigation indexes like "assignments" & "Quizzes." This can be fixed-ish by eliminating those index pages from navigation, but those published items still greatly clunk up the gradebook. I wish there were an additional button next to the original button to publish & unpublish on each module. This second toggle button could act as a bit of an override and not only unpublish the module, but also unpublish everything within the module. Teachers simply shouldn't have to click so much and this seems like it should have a very simple fix! While there was discussion on this in Community, I couldn't see that this idea was already proposed. Come on you Canvas big brains-- please fix this. :0)

As a district Canvas admin, I was looking into this for one of my teachers. She came back from a conference and asked that I look into this for her. It was her understanding that it was already an option, but everything I have seen, it is not. Admins go to the Edu Apps Center to find apps that are able to be integrated into Canvas and nothing is there for Everfi. We will explore other ways to integrate, but it would be preferable to have it as a external tool integrated into the Canvas assignment interface. Unfortunately, this idea probably will not get a lot of traction due to its specific CT appeal, so if you are reading this now please send this to your CT & HOSA friends to upvote this issue.

Very interesting! Have you considered using a blueprint course so it automatically pushes out that new content to all the English teachers? Your Canvas admin sets up blueprint courses.

This is the end of our first year with Canvas. I am going through and making a course roll over guide for my teachers. As part of it I am trying to compare the differences between importing a course from an existing course, sharing a course to Commons (possibly to only yourself), and exporting a course to share my findings with my staff. There are several options so I am just curious to see if there is one clear cut winner. Do you have any preferences or cautionary tales and why? I really must know! TIA!

As a district Canvas admin, is there any way for me to give teachers the ability to make a course a blueprint course from one of the manually created courses that they are already able to generate? I went in my admin settings> permissions> account roles> and then enabled "Blueprint courses- add/ edit/associate/delete" for the teacher role. (I know this still has the red X, but I disabled it again since my test obviously failed. More on that to come...) So when I went back to test this newly enabled teacher permission, I impersonated one of my teachers. I had them create a new course. Then when I went into that course's settings, the blueprint functionality that the Canvas admin sees, was not there. This was the what it looked like for the teacher. It simply said no-- it wasn't a blueprint course even though I had previously enabled the permission as stated above in this post. I understand based on a previous press release that blueprint courses were originally supposed to be for admins and course designers only. There was no mention of teachers in the release. So my question is two-fold. Can teachers make manually created Canvas courses (without enrolled students of course) into blueprint courses? Is there a reason why they should not have control over this blueprint functionality? I really like my teachers to have the least restrictive Canvas creation environment, and granting them this seems to be a no brainer. Am I missing something? I plan on also entering this as a ticket to my CSM, but I thought I would reach out here as well. If I hear something good, I will share it with the group. TIA.

The process of differentiating by group shouldn't take so long and should also be extended to quizzes. Time after time, my teachers differentiate for their students but still have to type names in to make this happen. I have teachers trying to make smaller student groups within cross listed courses so that they can assign assignments and differentiate amounts of extended time. (They do not want to alter the assignment itself.) The teachers want these subgroups to be static and set for all assignments, not just on a by project or by assignment basis. They want to make the groups confidential. Additionally, they also want the students to span all of the cross-listed courses. If I had one magic Canvas wish, it would be for this. There are so many students and teachers who would benefit from this functionality.

Please allow New Quizzes to be Created directly from a Module. Regardless of the default type of quiz, if a New quiz is created through the Module, it always goes back to Classic Quizzes. To double check that I was correct, I did the following experiment. I went to the "Quiz" Index page by clicking on the blue link in the course navigation. As expected, the quizzes that have already been created, pop up. Once I was there, I clicked on the skinny snowman next to the "+Quiz" and selected "Rest Quiz Engine" Choice. " Still in "Quizzes", I started constructing a new quiz with the "+ Quiz" button. It now gives a choice of what type of "Quiz Engine" I prefer. I chose "New Quizzes" and then I checked the box that said "Remember my choice for this course." Now when I make a new quiz with the "+Quiz" button it remembers that I want a new quiz and it gives me a start of a new quiz as it should-- in the new quiz format Woo hoo! However, if I go to create a "Quiz" directly from a Module by clicking on the + sign in the desired Module, then choose "Quiz" in the dropdown box, and add it this way; I get a quiz in the "Classic Quiz" format. What gives? I was on hold with support for 45 minutes before me rep said that people have to create quizzes directly from quizzes in order to get the New Quiz option. That is honestly a bit nutty. He also said it is probably just a "quirky transition thing" and will probably be changed, but he had no further information. Please fix this asap. This idea has been developed and deployed to Canvas For more information, please read through the Canvas Release Notes (2021-03-20).

I am looking for this as well. Have you found any answers yet? When staff in my district use the external tool-- Quizlet LTI-- they are unable to find anything in the Quizlet search box that pops up. Copying and pasting URL links doesn't work either. So far embedding Quizlets in the rich content editor appears to be the only functional way. I feel like I am missing something. I am going to search for more information and I will let you know if I find something.

I am still looking for a way to integrate Common Lit myself. Has anyone come up with anything? I feel like it's crazy that it can be integrated into Google Classroom and not Canvas. Hmmm... I did find this post recently. It talks about GC and Clever and mentioned that Clever can be used as a "bridge" to Canvas so I am going to try to explore that since we do use Clever. I will keep you posted as to how this works.

This was just reported to me today. One of my English teachers had this happen in her AP class. Two of her students had been working all quarter on compiling a Slide Deck through Google as an External Tool submission type and after weeks of using the file, their work was gone. The files are not in the teacher's Drive nor the students' Drives. It says "Unknown Drive File" when they go to open the assignment. Is there any way you know of that can help to retrieve these files AND keep it from happening to other students?

The YouTube live Canvas sessions (typically hosted by @MarkBoothe) that were started this spring due to Covid-19 have been a TOTAL LIFESAVER. In the fall my campus is going to Canvas and as edtechcoach it is my job to assist staff in this transitional process. I am working hard to help my staff to get there with as much ease as possible and these sessions have gone a long way to help. In fact, these videos have played a huge role in that!The one area where I feel like I could use more tangible examples and good ideas are in the realm of special education. I know there are all sorts of amazing resources and thinkers out there who have figured out how to really make Canvas courses work for special education, I am just unfortunately not finding what I am looking for. specialeducationhack‌ specialeducation‌speced‌ specedhack‌ Here are the ideas I am Crockpotting about. Does your special education staff have its own course? specialeducationcourse‌ If yes, what items does the course entail? In what capacity are your intervention specialists involved in regular education courses? I have been thinking a lot about this and inadvertently got a brief glimpse at what I am looking for during one of the awesome Canvas sessions. It was an HTML session with @cflippen ‌. Thanks Cat!!! (I really don't want to sound like a stalker or anything, but her sessions are Canvas gold if you haven't seen one yet! I feel like I have one ah-ha moment after another!) Anyway, here is the video I am talking about. Around 12:30 Cat shows how to make banners fit to whatever the size of the screen is and that is great stuff, but I am equally as intrigued by the pages she is tinkering with-- the special education content with multiple buttons. So Cat, you awesome course designers, and special ed techies out there, what do you recommend for special education staff that is just beginning with Canvas? In May I curated a lot of the things I could find in the Community about special education in this quickie slide deck. They are great resources that were shared by all of you, but it still doesn't show what a special education course could look or act like so I would deeply appreciate seeing more of that if you have things or ideas you could share. Also, if you have anyone out there you can connect me with or if you feel you have cracked the spec ed Canvas code, I would appreciate any and all ideas or contacts!

Presently my district is reevaluating its contract with edmentum, the maker of plato as a deliverer of content for students who are credit deficient. We are are a career technical (cte) high school so we need a platform that will deliver credits to students for many different districts. I was wondering... Does anyone out there have Plato integrated into Canvas. I see Canvas does offer it as an lti, but I haven't found any chatter about it in the Canvas Community. Here are my questions: If your district does use Plato within Canvas... Are you pleased with the integration? Do you have any tips or tricks with the integration? If your district does not use Plato within Canvas, but does use Plato... What made you make this determination? If your district does not use Plato to make up credit deficiencies, but have found a system you are happy with that plays nicely with Canvas... What system do you use? Thanks in advance for all of your feedback. I really appreciate it!
