I don't have a suggestion for a comparable solution, which is why we went with Eesysoft 2 years ago. We had a pretty slow rollout, but with everyone in Canvas this past year, it has been invaluable to see which tools are being used, to provide just in time context help, and to message faculty and students. Eesysoft has a pretty amazing combination of messaging tools, context help, and tracking...not really the help you were looking for, I know! I'll be interested to check out any alternatives that others post!

It is a privacy issue. Your user needs to allow the screenrecorder to access the camera. The easiest way to do this is to restart, and be sure to "allow" access to the camera and mic. Or, open preferences, security and privacy, and then under camera and mic allow screen recorder access.

I just opened a feature request asking for Studio to be enabled in Speedgrader. It was added as a companion to this feature request. Let's all go vote that one up, too: Use Studio to Create Feedback in Speedgrader

Integrating Studio with Speedgrader would improve the user experience and enhance learning. Narrating feedback while showing student work is incredibly impactful, but the media recorder in Speedgrader does not allow screencapture. I ntegrating Studio with Speedgrader would facilitate creating meaningful feedback for students, and it would allow teachers to create "microlessons" that they could include with assignment feedback. I can copy and paste the links to videos into the comments, but it does not create a true link, so students have to copy and paste into their address bar to access video feedback. The whole user experience could be enhanced by integrating Studio.

This is also important for students who may be using Studio via the RCE when responding to text entry assignments or discussions. The ability to use the institutions preferred (and paid for) tool is essential. I'm going to be jaded here and say that Studio should replace the inline media recorder (even in Speedgrader), but there is some financial incentive for Instructure to keep these separate, as many institutions have not yet subscribed to Studio. I would like for those of us that have paid for Studio to be able to use the tool throughout Canvas...

I'd like to argue that this is just as important when there are faculty issues. The need to be able to disable an account at the admin level is crucial to managing access while also archiving records.

I completely agree, Katie. I'm actually perplexed about why Canvas hasn't done this. We just paid for Studio, which has inline editing, so we know Canvas knows how to do this, and that Canvas knows why it is important and required by the law...the same video recorder and editor should be available for all media. It doesn't make any sense at all to have two different media platforms within Canvas, especially when one is not aligned to WCAG 2.0...
