Currently, when using Multiple Grading Periods, you can override a student's grade for each individual grading period in a course. This is a great feature we use a lot - however, when running reports, the overridden grade does not calculate into the final grade. We would have to manually override the final grade again at the end of the term after already overriding each grading period. Please allow an option at the admin level to have the override grade actually be used in final grade calculations.

The new "Suspend User" function is great, and something we have needed for a while. It would be really nice if suspending a user also automatically concluded all that user's enrollments, or if there was a setting to allow Suspend to do this. Currently, when a student leaves our school, we have to suspend their login information AND manually conclude their enrollment in every course they are in. It would be much faster if this could all be done in one click.

This feature is invaluable for K12 settings and I'm honestly shocked Canvas doesn't have an easy way to do this. I think many schools rely on their SIS or something like Dropout Detective/Grade Guardian, but not all schools have that option. but it seems like such a no-brainer considering the grade report is already viewable on the student's end. We just need a button for admins to click to get to the page that already exists.

This is likely a combination of smaller ideas, but for those of us admins who get grade reports directly from Canvas instead of going through a SIS, especially for K12 - the Canvas grade report functionality (both MGP and Final grade export) at the account level is nearly unusable. A LOT of columns are included in the grade reports that we do not need. Right now the only configuration option is what term the report is for. I would like to see configuration options before the report is generated so we can turn on/off things like: Grading Period Sorting of columns by student name, course name, etc (I have no idea what order it's in by default) SIS IDs for students, courses, sections (for a human-readable report, we don't need this info) current score/current unposted score/current grade/current unposted grade etc. (seriously - chances are, an account is only going to be looking at one of these columns, why are they all included by default?) filter by active enrollment Currently, to present a current grade report of all our admin, I have to open up the CSV in Excel, delete extra columns, sort by enrollment status so I can delete all the concluded/non-active enrollments, and finally sort by name. Based on the config options I've seen for other reports, these are steps that Canvas could be including to make the report much more user-friendly.

Since we use Canvas grade reports to generate report cards, I'd like to add that having a grade level on the grade reports would make things a lot easier to include.

We in are in K-12 environment where all our grade weighting groups are standardized for all courses. All of our classes use the Assignment Groups "Major", "Minor", and "Class Participation" and all have the same percentage weighting. I would like the ability to lock in this setting at the admin/account level so that all courses have these assignment groups and these groups only all with the same grade weighting. Right now, we can set this using course templates, which is great. However, one downside of this is if a teacher imports content from another course (for example, last year's course they taught), Canvas creates whole new Assignment Groups to match the course the content was copied from and now their new course has extra assignment groups and the grade weighting adds up to 200%. I have to train staff to clean up those extra groups after import, but it would be so nice if Canvas "knew" that the destination course has the same assignment groups and placed the incoming assignments appropriately. Or, as a potential workaround - if the import process could ask the user to specify which group to send assignments to on import, that would be helpful too.

In a K-12 setting, I feel that it doesn't make much sense to require student users to accept a course invitation, since their class schedule is already decided upon enrollment. By having those students automatically "accept" the course invite upon being added, this allows teachers to edit grades for those students even if the student missed the course invite. Edit: Since my post was merged with this one, I'd like to add that "force enrolling" a user should be the default for k12 environments. As an admin I am aware that SIS imports go around this issue, but myself and other admins on my team often use the manual/UI enrollment methods for situations where a single student is to be enrolled, it's just easier than loading up a .csv file. I don't think it's a major issue if a student is enrolled in the "wrong" class - as even in the current system it happens from time to time anyway. In my experience users either click Accept for every course, not realizing if its the wrong course, or ignore all the invite prompts anyway. I've never seen a situation in which the user noticed a course invite and hit decline because it was the wrong course.

I would love to see a built-in option to choose which assignment group that copied content goes into in the next course. As it happens, all our courses have the same 3 Assignment groups for weighted grades, Major, Minor, and Class Participation. When a teacher copies over a module or assignment from another course, it either puts it in Imported Assignments or creates a whole new copy of whatever group it was in previously, so then the teacher will have two Minor groups, for example. Then grade weighting gets all screwed up from the new group being added.

I agree, an account-wide setting for this would be helpful. I would be okay with this even just being a cosmetic change in what the student sees while the two-decimal grade is still stored in the report. We don't include decimals in our report cards anyway so it can be confusing for our students and parents to see the decimal on Canvas.

I agree with those saying the Excel report is unusable - why can't teachers access the far more user-friendly "pie chart" and table records that students can see on their end? The only way to view this is to Act As User which is not available for our teachers. Currently teachers can see the percentage but not the record over time as shown to students. Other big problems for me are the fact that assignment/grade notifications still go out every single time Roll Call Attendance is updated which is multiple times a day for students. It's obnoxious and has led to us directing teachers to set the whole assignment to Not Graded - which then removes the ability for students to check their percentage "score", and if parents have questions about the attendance record teachers are forced to grapple with the horrible CSV files... when I KNOW Canvas has the ability to display that data graphically! This topic was originally posted in 2015 - why hasn't this been addressed yet? Has there been any movement or progress on this?

I want to be able to simply copy a previous announcement and set a new date on it. OR, when editing the previous announcement, allow the ability to set a new date for it to go out again. We were using announcements to send info about spirit days and I was shocked to find that I couldn't just edit the last one, change a link and a few words, and just reset the announcement's date... I had to create a whole new one. Yes I can just copy/paste the text into the new one, but that gets cluttered very quickly and it seems like something that could easily be built-in. I would also support better organization of the Global Announcements page so that we can see the currently active vs previous or archived announcements. It seems a bit odd to me that the previous announcements are all saved, but they can really only be looked at or deleted and not re-used.

I support this idea. I have three big hopes for Announcements changes in the future: 1) Users have some way to archive or save old Announcements that they may have dismissed. I had used global announcements to send out survey links, etc., and often students would mistakenly close the announcement and have no way to get back to the link. 2) Better organization in the Global Announcements list. Even just sorting into "Active", "Recent", and "Archived" or something similar, AND on a similar note... 3) The ability to simply copy then edit a previous announcement and set a new date on it. @jsimon3 Wow, this is perfect! And thanks for the tip on editing the custom javascript file - I hadn't messed with the theme editor outside of putting logos on, so it never would have occurred to me to try something like that, but this works like a charm.

Oh my god trying to audit student enrollments in different sections is a nightmare because there's no easy way to sort or filter by section, in People or Settings! People can only show all the students at once, and viewing the sections in Settings only shows all students AND observers! Hunting for individual student names is a slog and waste of time when I could easily confirm names with a better sorting tool.

When pulling up a User's profile from the Admin view, it's a pain to figure out which courses they're enrolled in this term, because the list is only sorted alphabetically, not by Term or by which courses have been completed. If I could hide the completed enrollments or closed Terms - or at least sort the list so that the most recent Term shows up on top instead of mixed in - it would make things a lot easier when I'm trying to manage which courses my students are enrolled in each Term. Here's a screenshot of the view I'm talking about - you can see two different terms (2019-2020 and 2020-2021) mixed up:

Thank you, that is a good idea. Thankfully we register students with their school email, which would be deactivated when the student leaves, so they shouldn't be able to access their forgot password link, but moving forward we may consider doing this as an extra precaution.

I support this idea. Right now if a student leaves our school we are leaving their account active and just resetting the password just in case we want to reference their records. (We do save exported reports but it's nice to have the original Canvas account as a back up) I would like to see a way to disable or make the account inactive account-wide so that they cannot log in and they are shown as inactive for all their courses (so teachers wouldn't see their name on the roster, but we could still access their grades and logs)
