You've hit the nail on the head! My teacher's say the student and teacher apps had this functionality last school year but I was told by Canvas support that it was due to an "exploit in the code".  I will add to this though. This would be an additional, not parallel, experience in the iOS browser ecosystem.  Accessing Canvas via browser on an iPad (as opposed to using the app) does not launch the ability to annotate with an Apple Pencil though. It would only parallel the experience of a "non-tablet" browser experience. I have been able to create the experience outside of Canvas. The workflow goes like this: Teacher posts an assignment in Canvas to stay "in compliance" with school policy to "use Canvas" Instructions in the assignment say "Go to Showbie to complete" (Showbie is another app that does exactly what is requested in this feature request) Teacher annotates, passes back, receives corrections, annotates, passes back as many times as necessary to give good formative feedback. While this workflow takes teachers and students outside of the Canvas ecosystem it is a much simpler workflow than downloading, re-submitting, multiple copies (using Notability as the annotation app) as each passback involves a new document.  ... So we did test out the workflow and your video did match up to what we experienced. However, if you watch the video at the 2:30 mark you will notice that the annotation tools on your student iPad do not appear. This is also what we are experiencing. The student at this point cannot make additional annotations on the document without these tools.  The teacher, however, can continue to make comments and annotations. We were able to make several comments, "commit" the comment and have it appear on the student iPad (3 times in fact). All the student had to do was refresh the assignment and the fresh annotation would appear.  So, it looks like back and forth annotation/revision only works in one direction, from teacher to student and not from student to teacher. Thank you for the help.  We are in fact using the Student and Teacher apps. It looks like what we see in the video is the functionality we had previously. We were told that we had previously had this functionality due to an exploit in the code. However, we cannot recreate that as the annotation tool option is not showing for students to use their stylus. We will run some tests today and report back. If this was in fact a functionality due to an exploit then we want to continue with the Feature Idea progress so that the exploit becomes permanent.     ... View more

My teachers would like to see this as well. The current situation is unfortunate for the Canvas engineers I would think. Their hard work to create the quiz option goes unused and unappreciated by anyone who resorts to EdPuzzle for this functionality.   I Vote UP for this question type on Studio Quizzes. ... View more

NEW Quizzes must log when students leave the quiz (classic quizzes has this feature and it MUST stay) Logs for Classic Quizzes included any time that a student left a quiz (for example, to open another app or browser tab for the purpose of searching for an answer). NEW Quizzes does not include this information in the logs for a quiz. This is a CRITICAL functionality that NEW Quizzes lacks. With the increase in On-Line learning due to Covid-19 the need for this type of information is even more necessary for teachers to have access to. Please include this functionality OR do NOT deprecate classic quizzes. Included is a screenshot of the type information the classic quiz log records. Brandon, This is helpful, however, it doesn't answer the original question. Classic quizzes would not only give a log similar to this one but would ALSO give details in the log of when a student leaves the quiz (possibly to Google an answer) and then returns.   From what I can tell, the answer to the original question is "NO".   This type of information MUST NOT disappear from the logging functionality of NEW quizzes.   ... Same exact issue. The Google Apps LTI allows me to grade using an iPad and Apple Pencil. Much easier for grading written work (essays, stories, etc.). Unfortunately that LTI is being deprecated in a year. Without that functionality, my teachers are going to revolt a bit. They are used to (and love) grading on an iPad but the new Assignments LTI looks to be missing the grade on iPad feature.   Please add that functionality rather than remove it. ... View more

This would be a HUGE time saver for teachers.  Even better, teachers could create "Lists" that would show up in the dropdown. For example: A choir teacher could assign different pieces to small groups in the choir that wouldn't be a group project. A newspaper teacher could assign stories to a list of writers and photo assignments to a list of photographers. The current system assumes all teachers have to give all students the exact same assignments in a class or provide individual differentiation. This assumption does not fit for many courses especially those in the "electives" world.   ... View more
