I'm also interested in a solution for this issue. We are currently using CSV batch files from Banner but are considering moving to API calls in the future. Sticky fields are important to our design, particularly for section dates.

I am about to start looking at using Canvas Data for our institution so an update on the time line for Canvas Data 2 would be helpful @Edina_Tipter

This would be very useful when teachers need added to a prior course which they did not teach so that they can import content for teaching in this academic year. Admins should be able to add People without having additional steps to change course dates first.

I note the roadmap and FAQs above are from Summer 2021. Is anyone aware of plans for further development of these integrations? I have similar questions to others about the integration of sections and roles with MS Teams.
I also wondered if anyone already using the MS Teams Meetings integration can tell me whether students who enrol onto a course after a meeting has been created will receive the calendar invite? I haven't been able to try this out for myself yet.

We also need to allow some course roles and some admin to view a new quiz without being able to make any edits to the questions. Role mapping is essential for our use of New Quizzes. We have worked with other LTI providers to ensure that our custom roles map correctly to roles available in their tools, Canvas needs to do the same for their own product!

Adding my support to this idea as I am currently reviewing the roles we set up when we moved to Canvas last September. It is really time consuming to document permissions so that these can be shared with non-root admin, even though we only have a few roles. Any documentation is going to need maintained for changes to granularity and options implemented by Canvas. It would be far more efficient to be able to produce a report showing the current roles and permissions at the time of our review.

We automatically apply student enrolments to Canvas from our SIS. We do not want to allow teachers to enrol students, however we do want to allow them to add/move existing students to other sections within their course.
For example we have semester based sections within one course which could be taught multiple times over the year. So if an individual student needs to have access extended beyond their semester of study, then they should be added to a second section, which provides access for the whole academic year.
Before Christmas 2021 instructors were able to add existing students to additional sections, but attempting this now generates an unhelpful 'Ajax' error. It seems that we were taking advantage of a loophole which Canvas has now tightened up (although it is not clear why this action generates an Ajax error, rather than the menu option itself being hidden).
Please improve granularity to allow instructors to manage the sections of existing students without having the ability to add new students to a course.

We use Office 365 Collaborations in Canvas. Today previously working collaborations are no longer accessible to staff or to students from the link in the course.
I have tried different users, different browsers and different courses but nothing has resolved this. Occasionally we can get access on one course, but for another it won't work at all. Users are not taken automatically to the file, but instead are asked to log in, the authentication pop-up appears successful but after a while a screen appears saying 'You are not allowed to view this content'. There is no issue with our SSO and the course link to Office 365 OneDrive is working ok.
I have contacted Canvas 24/7 for support but they have no further suggestions at this stage other than speaking to our IT team. Any suggestions to help resolve this would be welcomed!

Yes, it would be a good idea to be able to select specific modules or pages to run the link checker against at course level.
It would also be very helpful if there was an option to ignore links which fail because they require authentication with systems used in our organisation, such as embedded Microsoft Stream videos. If this isn't possible to implement as a general rule, then perhaps the ability to set a URL whitelist at root and then the option to ignore those URLs when running the link checker. Unless there is another solution for this that we've missed so far?!

I would support this as a way to save users or admin time in tracking down who owns an item bank, this may not be easy to do as courses and teachers change over time. For the new user to gain access to the item bank they currently need to ask around until they find a colleague with access or they will need to ask admin to 'act as user' on multiple teacher accounts until they can find out who owns it and 'share' with the new teacher. Being able to request directly from the quiz using the item bank would be significantly easier.

The ability to link item banks to courses rather than individuals would support our team teaching approach. If you are a new teacher on a course, there is no way to identify who created the item bank used in a quiz. It may be another teacher on the current course, however it could just as easily be a teacher from last year who has now left. For the new teacher to gain access to the item bank they will need to ask around until they find a colleague with access (or will need to ask admin to 'act as user' on multiple teacher accounts until they can find out who owns it and 'share' with the new teacher).
We will look at naming conventions for item banks and best practice guidance to ensure teachers share with their course team, but it would be better if item banks were linked to the course somehow. If this isn't possible due to their individual design, then a report for a course, or for sub-account admin, showing item banks with owners would be helpful?
(Edit: Also see this feature request to allow admin management of item banks which relates to my last point)

Thanks Scott, I've just realised that if I run the SIS export report for accounts from root instead of from the sub-account that I was using, then this will give us a full list of all the sub-accounts. This at least gives us something to check.

Hi, We are in the process of setting up our account structure and I am looking for a way that we could create an export report or diagram from Canvas to show all the sub-accounts that we've set up, did you come across anything like this? I'd like to be able to illustrate the structure to explain to different admin roles what they will have access to, and do this from Canvas rather than my own diagram if that was possible. Any suggestions would be welcome!
