In course navigation, when I enable announcements so students can see them, they still remain disabled, even though I've moved them up. It's only happening in one course.
Solved! Go to Solution.
It turns out that the "announcements" link stays hidden until an announcement is added. Problem solved. Thanks for getting back to me.
I had the same issue with one course only. I enabled the announcements in the navigation settings and posted an announcement. In my other two courses, this removed the crossed-out eye but not in one. Refreshing/reloading didn't fix it.
My fix was I went back into settings, but in the Course Details section tab, scroll to the bottom, and click on "more options", then check first box to display recent announcements on the home page. I like this feature and wanted it anyway, but I'm assuming you could unclick it if you didn't want it and the bug would still be fixed? It is annoying that it is hard to find.
Hi @mhaefner Thank You for your question. And thanks for mentioning that it's only happening in one course. It seems that you have your head around course navigation in Settings. I'm wondering if you have any Announcements published which might mean students not having access. Could this be the case?

I am having the same issue, but posting an announcement doesn't solve the problem.
My students have informed me that the push notification went out but that they still cannot see the Announcements menu.
As you can see in the screenshot, I have an announcement sent, but the menu still shows as disabled.

I'm having the same problem in one course as well. I've sent an announcement, set "Announcements" to be visible in the Navigation bar - but it still remains hidden!
I just realized my problem was not scrolling down to "Save" the change in the navigation settings. 🙄
Check to see if you have enabled the Announcement link in the course navigation. Having it disabled would over-ride any other setting.
I am having the same problem, and it's frustrating to see circular responses: "you have to enable it in Navigation - well, if it's still not working, it's because there are no announcements. Well if there's an announcement posted, it must be because it's not enabled under Navigation." This is unhelpful.
Under Navigation, Announcements are in the top section, not disabled. I've verified this ten times. I have posted an announcement, so it has content. Checked this multiple times as well. And the section is still listed as "no content, not visible to students." I'll repeat: have already enabled it in Navigation settings, already posted an announcement, and it is still not working. How can this be corrected??? Thanks.

This solved my problem! What a huge help! Thank you
Exact same issues here 😞
I am having the same issue. Announcements claim to be "enabled". I have an announcement posted. Students can see the notification and announcement is added to their "to do" list. But the "Announcements" area on the menu still has the crossed-out eye icon next to it and students can't access the area.
Posted above,

I had same problem - turns out you have to scroll down to bottom of settings page to "Save" the announcement change. 🙄
I am also having the problem of having posted an announcement and enabled announcements in Navigation, but yet still students are not able to see the Announcements page. I have tried closing out of the page and refreshing, and returning to it, which has helped for other "buggy" issues in Canvas for me in the past, but the issue remains. Is this a bug with the latest Canvas update?
@bnaimy I had this happen for the first time a week ago and asked support about it. They said it happens sometimes and to just go into the navigation menu and disable it (and save) then re-enable it and it fixes it. This did do the trick. They also told me that students do still get the email notification or however they have their notification settings set it is just seeing it in the course that is having the issue.
Hope this helps!
