This may sound like a ridiculous question but has anyone had an issue where you knew you had graded a section or an assignment and when you went back later, now of the grades were there? I know that sound crazy but it has happened to me at least once a quarter. I started keeping track and mark down the assignments I graded and then a few days later, I find I have to grade that assignment again. I've been teaching in Canvas for some years now so it isn't that I don't understand. I just wonder if anyone else has had this issue.
Thank you in advance.
Leta,
I've never experienced this but I'm curious if you've checked the gradebook history to look for any clues?

Thanks Rick, I checked the grade history and that is gone too. I have 2 classes and 2 assignments in each class to do. It is frustrating and this is not the first time. It is a total waste of time. When it first happened I thought it was me forgetting what I had and hadn't done but I started keeping track of what I had graded and then I'd go back in the next day and some of the grades were gone.
Anyway, just a little frustrated.
Leta
Leta, I've had the exact same problem, and it's such a big waste of time. I'm so bummed! Did you ever figure it out? I'm ready to cry . . . again.
Let me ask you this: are you attempting to reopen the quiz to a student by changing the assignment dates? If you go into editing mode and change the assignment dates for that individual student, you will inadvertently hide the grades for everyone else. If this is the case, you need to change that box back to "everyone." Then the grades for everyone will reappear.
When you want to set up assignment dates for a quiz for an individual student who may have missed it, you need to click on +ADD at the bottom of the editing page. Then you'll get a new box. When you set up the dates for that student, the original box will say "everyone else." And, all of the grades will be visible.
If this doesn't work, please post a screenshot of what's going on.
Good luck!

I have had two different instructors report this issue to me within the past year. Is this a browser issue? Did you ever find a cause to your grades disappearing?
Thanks!
Kathy
Thank you for responding. Actually, I had to go to our elearning person on campus and she was able to pull up the grades through another way. With that, I was able to get the grades back. It was a difficult, frustrating, and panicked situation.
I had a couple of other concerns also. It seems that sometimes, Canvas will also changed dates or times regarding assignments. I will check and double check dates but then I will notice that either the dates or times have changed. It appears to be more the times that will change verses the dates. An interesting observation. I was talking with one of my grandchildren. The high school she attends uses Canvas. She was over one weekend when I was working on my classes and, again the times had changed. She heard me "sort of" ranting and told me that her teachers at school have also complained about that. I just found it interesting.
Sadly, when it happens and I don't catch it in time but students will comment, I feel a little silly saying that Canvas will sometimes change the times.
Again, thanks for responding.

This happened to us too. One whole section of grades and all the comments (except on assignments without a submission) disappeared overnight. I know the grades were there because I posted them for the students to see.
