[ARCHIVED] Access to edit history for google doc assignments

Last spring, when students turned a Google Doc in to Canvas, the doc was reformatted to a pdf.  As a world language teacher, it is helpful for me to see the edit history of student work, as many use Google Translate to write in English and then translate the whole doc.  Is there a way to have students turn in a Google Doc, but leave it in Edit format so I can view the backdrafts?  Thanks!

I also use this method of checking for translators and now chat gpt.  Sometimes when I set it up, it works and is accessible, sometimes it does not.  Have you made any progress on this?

I don't know if the original poster ever got an answer. I can share that when you use the Google LTI integration, Canvas creates a folder in your Google Drive with all the student files Shared with you. You can go to your own Drive and access the assignments there to see the Version History and other Google features.

This option is not available when Google Docs are uploaded as files because with that method the student files are not Shared with you through Google Drive.

I'm not sure about Google Files submitted via "Submit a URL." I think the student would have to set the Share settings to give you the rights to Edit (or maybe just Comment) instead of View.
