Hello Canvas friends -
I am trying to find out if I can download data from a Canvas course to analyze the usage of that course by the students. Here is the scenario:
a) A university has an "open" course with multiple content. There are no assignments or quizzes, just content pages.
b) On campus and off-campus people are using this course.
c) I would like to know the most commonly visited pages, and for how long they are visited, and the IP addresses from where they are accessing it (so I can check who is on-campus and who is off-campus).
Is this possible?
Thank you -
Chris
I'm kind of a rookie with Canvas Data myself, but from just poking around it seems like this doable.
The requests report would give you the IP addresses, user ID, and course name. Maybe this is achievable by some combination of the requests, wiki fact, and wiki page dim?
Some of these are all massive files though. We have a pretty modest sized institution and our requests report was still about 315,000 rows.
After playing around with it a little it looks like merging requests and user dimension by the user ID would get you close to where you need to be. Then you could add/remove columns you need/don't need
