Hi there, I am trying to send an announcement but when I save, the announcement will not post, when I go to a different page, the announcement is lost. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Hi Jessica,
It appears that a database level error is currently preventing people from posting announcements in Free for Teacher courses. Our technicians are investigating as I write this. I will let them know to check discussions as well. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Hi Vickie,
I'm looking in the course where you appear to have been in the announcements area most recently. It appears that I can post an announcement (although I didn't). Are you able to post announcements in your other course? Have you tried all the usual troubleshooting things like logging out and back in, clearing your browser cache, etc?
I have had the same problem today, except I also cannot post a new discussion board or import course content, but I can post an assignment. I noticed at least one other person in the last couple of hours who also was not able to post a discussion board. I have tried closing the browser and logging out and back in. Nothing. I have never cleared cache, but I have tried it on multiple computers already. Nothing. Could this be a Canvas issue?

Hi Jessica and Vickie,
They fixed the problem. Please let us know if you have further difficulties with posting announcements in Free for Teacher Canvas.
Thank you! Is there a way they can also check imports? I accidentally created four courses instead of four sections for one course (insert sheepish head scratching), which of course means I can't cross-list, and it will take me forever if I can't import from one section to another. I have never had this problem before today either, but now it keeps telling me "Failed" and "There has been an error, please contact support."
Hi Jessica,
Sorry, I'm not following you. You created four courses for four sections of students. But you cannot crosslist three of the courses into the fourth one for some reason?
I can see your four courses, btw.
No, I made a mistake when I was creating my courses, but that's not the issue. It still is not permitting me to copy course content. For example, since you can see them, I created a module in English II - Period 3, but when I go to Period 5 to import that module, instead of saying Completed in green. It says Failed in red.
Btw, the issue with discussion was resolved with announcements.
First off, I'd like to commend you for creating all these courses and content in Free for Teacher. The fact that you have all your students logging in is pretty impressive.
I see the failed imports in your Period 5 course. I don't know what is causing the error. Something else you could try would be to create and download a course archive in your Period 3 and then upload and import the archive into Period 5. Doing the import selectively might help you assess what content from Period 3 is causing the error.
Hm, I'm not familiar with creating course archives. Is there a Canvas guide for that?
Thank you. I use Canvas with my college as well, so I'm fairly familiar with it, but some of this stuff is usually left for our IT department.
Hi Jessica,
In your course settings next to the Import Content option there should be an "Export Content" option as well. You can export your course content as a downloadable file and save it to your computer. Then in the receivig course you can chooe Import Content and upload it again. Note that on import, you don't have to import the entire file but can instead choose which specific content items to add.
So, I accidentally tried that while I was waiting for your response. Unfortunately, it seems to be having trouble with that, too. It's been "Uploading" for at least ten minutes now. I also tried importing just a file. I figured that was something easy for the system, but that failed as well.
I'm guessing that you are running into a bandwidth issue or some point of failure between your location and the cloud. Would you like for me to try it for you as a test? Feel free to direct message me.
Thanks Scott, it is working now ![]()
