The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
I understand the feature: adding an automated signature to email sent via Canvas, is not available. When will it be added? I think it's the least you could do for us faculty, and way overdue.

@chung1 and @schexnayderk ...
I wanted to let both of you know that I discovered a blog posting from Instructure last evening, and signatures are finally coming to the Canvas Inbox! The link I will provide below has some information for you...along with a bunch of other updates. I hope this will be helpful to you!

Canvas Release Notes (2024-07-20) - Instructure Community - 606797 (canvaslms.com)
Good morning, @chung1 ...
An existing Feature Idea has already been submitted for signatures of messages sent through the Canvas Inbox. You can find that Feature Idea at Signature Block - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com). If you feel that this Feature Idea aligns with something you'd like to see implemented in Canvas, you might want to give it a star rating as well as leave a comment in that thread as to why this would be important to you.
Also, keep in mind that the Canvas Inbox is not the same as a standard e-mail service you might have (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.). The difference is that you are sending messages through Canvas to others that are enrolled in the same course(s) you are also enrolled in. You cannot send (or receive, for that matter) messages to (or from) your friends/family because they are probably not enrolled in those same courses. You can, however, set up Canvas to notify you via e-mail when a Canvas Inbox message is sent to you...so there is that e-mail connection in that way.
Hope this helps a bit. Let Community folks know if you have any other questions about this...thanks!
Hi,
We understand that this is not email, but a lot of the questions we get are things that can easily be answered in our signatures.
--Where's your office?
-Can I call you?
-Can I make an appointment?
Yes--we can and do provide the answers to those questions in obvious places in our courses (the syllabus for one--- but I have an FAQ module that has a page "How do I contact you?" and "How do I make an appointment?" as well as repeat it several times throughout the course.) However, students don't go into the courses anymore. They work from the calendar, or the To-Do list. (They never read and/or remember what they read the syllabus to begin with.) It would be helpful to me to have a saved signature, so I don't have to go hunting for those tidbits of information and links that I have in my normal email signature... Maybe I could even shorten it to just be my Canvas profile page--where most of my stuff is written anyway.
Additionally, while we can send email notifications to our work emails, I'm sure that I can speak for lots of the other faculty when I say-- we get hundreds of worthless emails a day--from vendors, superfluous and redundant things from several tiers of administration, committees, colleagues, organizations, etc., I like having a spot where it's just me and the students--where I can focus on them.
**My Signature**

@schexnayderk ...
This would be excellent feedback to post in the Ideas and Themes space if/when it becomes open for voting (which happens a couple times a year).
