What is the significance of the background colors of the cells in the Grades table? There are about 4 shades.

The background colors are associated with statuses such as missing, late, excused. You can change the status colors if desired.

Assuming that you are an instructor, this Guide will be of help to you.  Please note that you can customize the colors displayed, and those colors carry over for each course that you are teaching in Canvas.  How do I use the icons and colors in the Gradebook?
