Can I make sub modules, or modules within modules, or use modules like a folder system?

Hi  @iowen ‌ - Unfortunately not. This has come up a few times before in this Community, and my best recommendation is to vote "up" and comment on, if you wanted to, this Feature Idea: https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/4636-modules-within-modules .  The only alternative now--from a visual perspective, at least--is to indent things and create headings within your modules.

 @iowen , greetings! As Ken said, Canvas doesn't have the ability to layer content in the "Module" format. Yet, what I do is create a page (think of it like a "folder) in a Module and then add in all my files, links, video etc. So in this way my module doesn't look as overwhelming because I have the resources for a specific Module all contained on one page in the Module. I do this using the rich content editor on the page and adding links, files, pages, etc.

Below is an example of how one of my "Resource" pages looks from Modules - it is "Week 2 Resources." 

Then this is what the "Week 2 Resources" page looks like once you click on it. By setting things up this way, I don't have all of these links to resources on the Module page and it makes it easier for students to find what they need/are looking for.

Thanks  @kmeeusen ! I would caution to not layer too much when doing this! I normally stick with one layer or two at MOST. And, if there are two layers, then it's when I want to be able to link to all the specific resources for a given assignment, so it makes sense to keep them together and on their own page.

Being able to make sub-modules would be extremely useful.  I've begun using the OpenStax materials directly in Canvas.  Each chapter is imported as a module, which makes the modules screen very busy and much more difficult to navigate.  If I could create a higher level module that contained all of the OpenStax modules, it would make using the materials in concert with the other modules I've created for my course much better.
