What is the difference between "Course Chat" and "Module Chat"? I can't seem to identify any difference or why I sometimes see one and sometimes the other.
Solved! Go to Solution.
@behun , as Chris said, "Module Chat" isn't native to Canvas, and as he hypothesized, it is most likely a customization performed by someone at your university. I found a page of contact links specific to Saint Xavier (based on the email address you're using here), and your best course of action would be to ask them about it: Information Technology | Saint Xavier University
Hello @behun ...
I'm not too sure what "Course Chat" and "Module Chat" mean ... as those are not terms really used inside of the Canvas environment (though there is a "Chat" tool that can be enabled in a Canvas course). Might those two sets of words be something custom used at your school?
Yes, it is used inside of the Canvas environment. It is not unique to a particular school.
If you click on the Chat feature, you will see that at the top of the page it will say either "Course Chat" or "Module Chat".
@behun ...
Interesting... I am only seeing "Course Chat" (similar to what is shown in How do I use Chat as an instructor?). How are you able to see "Module Chat"?
*facepalm* That's the question.
@behun ...
Have you tried reaching out to the folks at the Canvas Help Desk to see if they might be able to shed some light on this for you? I'm not sure what else to tell you at this point, unfortunately. How to contact Canvas Support

There's not much point in marking an answer as "correct" when it has factually incorrect information and is useless.
@behun , we'd love to clarify or correct the response to your question, and would like to be able to appropriately direct people who have questions about "Module Chat," as it is not part of the standard Canvas UI and most likely displays in your Chat due to a global customization performed by your school for its own purposes. So please let us know what we should change in the answer currently marked "correct." Thanks!
