Hello!
I'm trying to set up a quiz at the end of the module where the student needs a particular score to move on to the next module (say 8 right out of 10 questions), but I want it to go into the grade book at a credit / no credit assignment - or it could even be 0/1 if they don't pass - 1/1 if they do.
I want to give them unlimited attempts, I just want them to learn the material to be able to move on - and I want it to go in my grade book as a pass/fail.
Regrettably, Canvas will not allow us to use Pass/Fail. It requires points for everything. So no matter how much we try to get students to think about mastering the material or meeting criteria, etc., Canvas maintains the outdated fixation on points. I work around this in my courses by using an arbitrary number for "pass," and continually remind students that the number doesn't matter. As for having the quiz be a requirement to move on, I would also like to implement this in my courses, so I'm very interested in the response.
Ryan,
I've been looking around because as I said, I want to use quizzes as pre-reqs for moving on, too.
Does this help?

Leslie,
Thank you for your response.
Yes, it helps. I understand how to add the pre-reqs. Yet, rather than the students receiving a raw score, I want there be a threshold, and if they scored over that threshold, they would get "credit" (so just a 1 or 0) in the grade book and then be able to move on to the next module.
I guess I'll have to go in the grade book and manually change the raw score to a 1 or 0 if they the threshold?
Or you can tell the Gradebook not to count that score toward the final grade. That is one way to keep it working. I do that for a required grammar test in my Media Writing class that is pass/fail.
I believe you can do this with module requirements and prerequisites. In the requirements you can set it up so students must achieve a certain score.
Then use the prerequisites to the next module.
As for the quiz settings in classic quizzes you can use practice quiz although this will not be recorded in the gradebook.
In the new quiz tool you will have assignment settings and quiz settings. (Note: This is currently course level feature option in Canvas course settings. If you don't see it, check with your IT department)
In the assignment settings you can determine point value and grade display (this will allow complete/incomplete). Additionally, you can choose to exclude the grade from the total column in the gradebook. This will make the quiz stay in the gradebook but automatically exclude it from the total.
