A 'Discussions' function in a module does not let students to post a question, the 'Discussions' function let students only to reply. Dear Developers, would be possible to use the IF statement to open discussion with a 'question' instead of a 'reply'?

The IF statement if one of the basic element in any programming language ;-).

You might want to consider submitting this as a Feature Idea here in the Community.  Click on the PRODUCT menu at the top of any page here in the Community, and then select IDEA CONVERSATIONS.  You'll see a red "Suggest an idea" button on that screen where you can create your idea for people to evaluate.  Hope this helps!

Hi chofer,

thank you for looking into this. I will put this task to my to-do-list.

I really appreciate that somebody does a voluntary work (no irony!) because the company staff cannot cope.

Hi @k_kalna 

Why not simply create the Discussion with a question your students need to answer? I do this all the time. You can even attach a grading rubric to make sure all salient points in the answer are covered. You can also set the discussion so that students must post their answer, befor they see the answers posted by their classmates.

Well, because I would like simply give the students an opportunity to ask.
