When creating new courses for the next term, our institution usually copy+pastes due dates for each assignment from an excel sheet that tracks the new dates.
I've recently learned that Canvas has a setting that should simplify this. However, when following the steps in this post for shifting dates during course copy, it looks like there are no due dates transferring from the previous course at all. The "Edit Assignment Dates" feature is completely empty. I've also tried importing the content again, and still nothing.
Is this a bug? Am I possibly missing a setting? Any help is appreciated!
Hello there, @JuliannaRamos ...
Just for clarification, when you import content from one course to another course, are you using the option to adjust due dates...as described in these Guides?
Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
@Chris_Hofer That's correct! Here's a quick walkthrough example video, if it's any help.
Hello there, @JuliannaRamos ...
Thank you for providing that video. That was very helpful. And, because you shared that video, I learned something new (because I've never really used the screen that you were showing). So, I am assuming that when you click on your course "Settings" button, you are then clicking on the "Copy this Course" option on the right side of your screen. (As I was watching your video, I was trying to figure out why you had "Start Date" and "End Date" fields showing on your screen.) Whenever I need to copy course content from one course to another, I always use the "Import Course Content" option instead of "Copy this Course" option. The screens are similar, but the functions of both options are slightly different.
If you already have a blank course shell available to you, I would recommend logging in to that blank shell, and then follow the instructions in the second link to import content from another course into the blank shell. You should still be able to import and adjust the due dates for the new course shell. To be honest, I've never used the "Copy this Course" option, so I'm not sure why it would not keep those due dates for you. But, you might have better luck using the Course Import Tool option instead.
Keep us posted on this...hopefully you'll have better luck using this option instead. Good luck!
@Chris_Hofer Thank you for the information! Unfortunately, in using the Import Content feature in a new course shell, I came out with the same result. No due dates listed at all.
Is this something my team should reach out to our Canvas Support contact about?
Yes, I think you should contact your Canvas Support contact about this. As far as I can tell, you are doing everything correctly.
