The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
I working on making a list of tips, tricks and lessons we've learned the hard way centered around closing a term or ending the year for Canvas Admins. Eventually, I'd like to make this a document posted in the community, but it's not at that level yet, so a Google Doc seems like the most agile workspace to so this.
I'd appreciate your feedback on this, here or in the comments of the doc itself and if you'd like to be on the editing team with me Deactivated user and a few others I'm happy to add you, just let me know.
Here's the Doc: Canvas End of Year Guide 2014-2015 - Google Docs
Wow this is great information about ending the year. Thanks for sharing. I haven't had the experience as Canvas admin to end the year but I believe this will be helpful as I plan what I want to build. Thanks for sharing.
We ran into an interesting challenge of having our course "auto-conclude". As soon as a faculty member added final grades to our SIS it changes the the status in our SIS import from active to completed. This triggered an "auto-conclude" in Canvas. Not sure why faculty members wanted to have unrestricted access to a course after they had posted final grades, but we had some faculty member distressed because the course had concluded before they were ready.
