[ARCHIVED] Error in alphabetical sorting in gradebook due to apostrophe in name

I'm an instructor.
The alphabetical sorting in the gradebook doesn't use the logic adopted by most applications I know (think MS Office or Google environments). I have students with a name beginning with O' such as O'Neill or O'Mahoney. They are systematically sorted by canvas before the next name starting with O contrary to the usual standards. For example in the canvas grade book I would have O'Neill BEFORE Olliver when alphabetical standards would sort Olliver then O'Neill, thus not taking the apostrophe for sorting purposes. This is embarrassing when I use excel to externally process my gradebooks and then import data back into canvas.
Thank you

Did you have a question? After all, this is a question forum.
I agree that Canvas sorting, not just the alphabetical sorting, is not always the best. In fact, it is often bad enough to elicit shudders from English majors and administrative assistants 🤣
Have you considered creating a new Idea Conversation to improve at least the alpha sorting in Canvas?
- How do Idea Conversations work in the Canvas Community?
- How do I submit a new idea conversation in the Canvas Community?
Good luck,
Kelley
