When you add a Google Doc as an external tool in a module--not part of an assignment, but just a link in the module. Does that make a copy for each student? Or is that just a view only copy?

Hello @LMorlock and welcome to the Community. When you link from Google to a module, it is a static (read-only) copy. If you want the students to edit it, you need to create an assignment and set the Submission as external tool. You will link your assignment here.
