To Our Amazing Educators Everywhere,
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
What is the best way to create a group of courses that only internal users can see? I set up a sub catalog and set it as hidden so our external users won't see those courses. Now I don't know how the internal users are going to access them.
I would add subcatalog admins to that catalog and then send the listings out by a link to internal users.
Individual courses. You select under visibility.
For situations like this at my institution, we put the courses in a separate subcatalog & set the visibility to "Link Only". However, this means they cannot browse a list of the courses in Catalog, but just access them individually by their specific URL.
Thanks, Kevin. I was hoping that they would be able to browse. Do they still get the course added to their transcript? Will the certificate still work?
Hey Joan,
I haven't fully explored this option, but could you just set the subcatalog to not "Show in Parent"? Then that specific subcatalog would not display in searches on your Catalog pages, but still be accessible to anyone with the specific subcatalog URL. I feel like I am forgetting/missing something, but if you haven't tried that route it could be a good place to start.
Thank you,
Kevin Hitt
Joan and Kevin,
This option has worked well for my institution. I have a number of sub catalogs for different disciplines, marked to not show in parent, with numerous courses in each, but only share the sub catalog link – that way they are only seeing courses applicable to their discipline. Only the parent courses show up on the public side. The others are set for “Visibility” by link only.

Yes and yes.
Thanks, everyone. I will try the "do not show in parent" method.
