How do I receive an email notification for new student messages in my inbox?

If you go to account, settings, you can turn on setting for receiving that message student sent you in Canvas Inbox directly to your email of choice, and it’ll allow you to reply directly using your email instead of having to go to Canvas Inbox.

Hello there, @ColinTuc ...

In addition to what @DeletedUser wrote, here are some Guides for you to look at.  You can add additional contact methods (such as additional e-mail addresses) to your Canvas profile.  Once that is done, you can then go to your "Notifications" screen, and you'll see a column for each of your contact methods where you can further customize notifications for your entire account.  Finally, you can customize notifications for specific courses as well in case you want to receive notifications for some classes but not for others.  I'll provide you links to Guides for all of this.
