Is it possible to hide the final grade on a quiz so that students do not see the score when they complete a quiz? I see where we can not show the correct answers to them, but it will still show the students their score of 28/30 or 90/100. I would like to be able to make that unavailable to them at the completion of the quiz.

Yes, this is possible.
If you are using the classic Gradebook:
How do I mute or unmute an assignment in the Gradebook?
If you are using the New Gradebook, you will need to set a Grading Posting Policy in the Gradebook for that column:
How do I select a grade posting policy for an assignment in the New Gradebook?

Hello
I have tried this and the quiz score still shows. I have the grade posting set as manual, and still the grade is visible after a student takes the quiz. How can I turn this off?
Hi Mary, I had the same problem when I preview the quiz as instructor. I think if you go to student view you may find that the quiz marks are muted.
mary.whitfield @milesl is correct below that score viewing is a Quizzes setting, separate from the Grade Posting policy.
Our institution is hiding scores successfully on exams with stakes sufficient to call for that, and to release those scores to students with Post Grades. So it's possible - just requiring work in both quiz settings and Gradebook.
Here are links to the guides for a quiz's settings in the two Quizzes engines:
To be effective, either of these must be combined with a Manual grade posting policy on the quiz.
What would make this substantially easier in the future is for score display to be scheduled. A great feature idea about that needs many more votes:
Hello https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/103774
Is there any way to hide the scores on a quiz after those scores were posted, but then a second attempt was added?
This is my situation...
When I created the quiz, I set it up as only one attempt, with the Grade Posting Policy set to "Manual". The due date and available until date were the same. Once the deadline had passed, I posted the quiz scores so that students could see them. However, a lot of students did poorly on this assignment, so I decided to extend the "Available Until" date for one more week and allow them a second attempt on the quiz - with the final score being the average of the two attempts.
The Grade Posting Policy is still set to "Manual", but a student just completed the second attempt on that quiz and this new quiz score appears to be visible to the student, That is, there is no "hidden score" icon (eye with slash through it) showing up in the Gradebook - for either the assignment column or the Total column. I assumed (wrongly it seems) that the scores on the second attempt would be hidden. Because the Grading Posting Policy information in the Canvas Gradebook says that "Grades will be hidden by default. Any grades that have already posted will remain visible.", I tried changing the Grading Posting Policy to "Automatic" and then back to "Manual", I then enter a score for the "Test Student" in that column, to test for future scores, but still no "hidden scores" icon appears (in either the assignment or Total column).
I have to leave the students' scores on the first attempt visible, so that students can decide whether or not they want to use the second attempt option (e.g. those who already have perfect scores won't want to). But, for security reasons (students sharing answers with others), I do not want students to see their scores on the second attempt until after the new deadline has passed. Does anyone know how I might achieve this?
I think part of the problem here is that students can view their score in two places:
1. the gradebook
2. the quiz
In order to suppress grades, there are two separate steps that must be taken in order to hide grades in both places.
Setting a manual grade policy will not stop a student from seeing their score when they return to the quiz.
Setting the quiz settings to not show results will not stop a student from seeing their score in the gradebook.
Explaining this configuration (which should really be the default behavior) to a non-technical instructor is not fun!
