I'm struggling to understand why images that display and load within the web app do not always display in the mobile app. It is inconsistent and I haven't yet found a common thread. In some cases, images are uploaded within the web app as a page is updated. Some work in the mobile app, some don't. I've also had teachers upload photos from mobile in the form of an announcement or discussion response, and that is also mixed. In the cases where the images don't show, I only see the image file name.
It doesn't seem related to connection latency or bandwidth limits, as I'm typically connected via WiFi with the mobile app. I can't find any references to this problem on any of the Canvas support sites.
Thanks for any insight!
Michael

Hi! I had the same issues. As I understood, the problem is with the settings in the mobile phone. This video explains how to fix it:
@mvantyne , I'm not sure of the answer to this question, but have you contacted Canvas support? When I'm totally stumped on something I'll normally start sending them tickets with examples of the issue and they are normally able to help.
In addition, a group that might be more likely to help with this type of issue is the Canvas Mobile Users group in the Community. I'm going to share this with them and maybe they'll have some insight into this issue!
I had reported this issue to Canvas Support a few weeks ago. There will be a fix in a future app update.
I don't suppose they said when...?
I have the same problem and its driving me mad. We've been trying to make our course content look good on both mobile and desktop and it seems impossible...
FWIW I have reported this to Canvas Support as well but they didn't seem too sure about the issue, they simply said that the display of HTML in the mobile app is generally inconsistent.
Update: I solved my problem anyway, it was that I couldn't get any images to appear when uploaded to our TEST instance. They work fine on our main instance. I can work around this, but I wish I had known that there are significant differences between the behavior/properties of these.
This is still an issue in the test environment in both Android and iOS.
Does anyone have a fix for it?
@sonya_corcoran1 , have you initiated a support case for this? If, as noted above, there are inconsistent behaviors, Canvas Support will benefit from having additional and diverse cases to analyze. And if you have already contacted Canvas Support, could you take a moment to let us know what they said about it?
We are giving the Canvas Admins area a little bit of love (especially questions that are really, really old) and just want to check in with you. This will also bring this question new attention.
Were you able to find an answer to your question? I am going to go ahead and mark this question as answered because there hasn't been any more activity in a while so I assume that you have the information that you need. If you still have a question about this or if you have information that you would like to share with the community, by all means, please do come back and leave a comment. Also, if this question has been answered by one of the previous replies, please feel free to mark that answer as correct.

this started happening again just recently. Images show up in a browser without issue, but not in the mobile apps. I haven't found a solution.
quick update.. the images show up if I'm looking at them from within the files section, but if I look at any of the pages that utilize them, then they don't appear.
This is happening in both the iPad and iPhone app. All images are broken using the app.
This is happening for me as well. Frustrating!

That cross site thing didn’t work for me. Not for iPhone, iPad, not for student or teacher app.
Turns out that it did work. I had changed the setting for safari rather than the app.
All is well. Good work finding that solution.
Thank you so much. It worked perfectly well for the application, but the problem is still there when viewing in Safari or Chrome on my iPhone. Any solution?
This solution worked! Thanks! To anyone else TLDR; turn on “allow cross-website tracking” in the Settings app. Click on “Student” (Canvas) app settings from Settings main screen. This seems to be the fix to a lot of new iOS issues from the security update in iOS 14.
It fixed the issue in the teacher app, too.
The proposed solution worked for the Canvas student/Teacher app, however DID NOT WORK worked for Safari neither for Chrome browser on iOS. To get the figures on Safari/iOS I need to go to Settings - Safari - Advanced - Website Data - Remove All Website Data. Then when I copied the link to Safari browser and it worked. However, when I then clicked the "rounded arrow" next to the link to reload the page, the figures got wiped out again. Please solve this issue!
@jan_skvaril Did you get anything to work in Chrome? I've got a student using Chrome who cannot see pics no matter what I have them try so I came online here seeking advice.
Is the student using Chrome on their mobile device? What happens when they use the mobile app?
