[ARCHIVED] Is there a way to make a visual indication between different categories in Gradebook columns?

Hi, just like we can see the different types of items or assignments according to grading weight, it would be great if there is a way to see that in the gradebook as well.  Is there a way to do this?  Or must this be submitted as an idea for a feature request?

Thanks,  @sanders3 ‌.  I just voted on this idea yet I see that this request was initiated back in 2015.  Do you think this will ever become a reality?

I note that the idea is not currently in the top 10% of ideas-by-vote, but that nothwithstanding, our product managers view and re-view all of the ideas associated with their responsibilities regularly and any new developments will be posted directly to the idea—so please follow the idea to keep informed of its progress.

If you are using the new gradebook (will be the gradebook in early January I think) there is a filter you can set to show one assignment group at a time.  While this doesn't quite get at what you are asking for, it might help.

My other thought is you could put an indicator at the beginning of assignment names that would indicate which category they are in.  It could be something simple, like E Midterm exam.  You could try to go fancier and use unicode characters. You can find several places  where you can search for unicode, copy © them and then just insert them at the beginning ˿ of the assignment names ༄.  So "exam 1" could become " exam 1".  I found all of these at https://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/search.htm and I just highlighted the image from the list and pasted them in here.  Sometimes that doesn't work , but it's fun  when it does. 

I don't think unicode characters address the accessibility issue that is brought up in the referenced feature idea.
