I like to keep my Canvas tabs on the left hand side to a minimum. Normally I ONLY have my "home" and "announcement" tab visible to students, then I link the current module week in my homepage. This way students only have one way to get to where I want them to go. I recently added the Badgr App and wanted students to be able to track their Badges by clicking on a link from the homepage. When I go to add link > Course Navigation badges doesn't show up. Is there anyway I can still like the Canvas Badges page to my homepage or do I have to leave the tab viewable to students, so they can track their badges?
Hello, @smurlk ! I understand your wanting to keep your Course Navigation Menu to a minimum. I found this page that might help you: https://support.badgr.com/portal/kb/articles/pathway-subscribers .
I also right-clicked when I was over the badges link and copied the link. I then picked the where I wanted the link to be, and added the badgr link for the course there. You can use this for step-by-step directions: How do I create hyperlinks to external URLs in the New Rich Content Editor as an instructor? or https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-26529-how-do-i-create-a-hyperlink-in-the-rich-content-edito... .
Interesting question, I hadn't realized that the Badges menu wouldn't show up in the Navigation list when linking.
First, I think it is a good idea to still have the Badges menu visible (and my proposed solution probably requires it to be visible).
As an instructor, click on the Badges menu. Then copy the URL displayed. Mine looks something like this:
https://sbctc.instructure.com/courses/xxxxxxxx/external_tools/226912
I then add that hyperlink to something on my home page such as Check your badges!
This worked for me. I went in as a student and click on the Check your badges! link and it took me to the Badges menu.
This link will likely change for a different course (if you've installed the Badgr LTI individually by course).
