If a student/user edits a discussion post after others have seen and marked it as "read", Canvas does not seem to indicate that there is something new/edited in the post. This is especially problematic if students make improvements/fixes to posts that the instructor would then give more credit for. However, Canvas does not tell us that the post has been updated since we last saw and marked it as "read".
Canvas needs to alert us to when a post has been edited.

@lshulman , according to the documentation, an "Edited by" designation appears directly below the edited reply along with the date and time of the edit. Please refer to the Verify Edit section of https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-10609-421299892 for a screenshot that depicts this.
If the behavior you're experiencing is not consistent with the documentation, please submit a help ticket, ideally directly from the discussion where the student-edited post displays (How do I get help with Canvas as an instructor?).
If you're looking for a new notification for discussion reply edits, that would need to be the subject of a feature idea (How do I create a new feature idea in the Canvas Community?).

I am able to see the "edited by" note at the bottom of an edited post. My issue is how to know to look for an edited post in the first place. It would be nice to have a feature that indicated there are newly edited posts in a discussion (with an easy to see indicator) just as there is indication that there are new unread posts.
I guess I will post this as a new feature idea.
