Since I use the gradebook everyday and have not experienced this, I would suspect either a bug https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12877-4152719652?sr=search&searchId=d825ac3e-3813-4113-953a... , or you are using an unsupported browser Which browsers does Canvas support?
