In New Quizzes, why is Matching an all-or-nothing grade? This is ridiculous. Students should get partial credit if some of the matches are correct. Now I have to manually adjust all my students grades. Very frustrating.

Why is this marked as solved?
The link provided is to a discussion by people upset at the ridiculous decision to make Matching all-or-nothing from 2 years go. They haven't done anything to make matching work correctly in this time (I am an instructional designer and the current marking scheme is quite simply wrong!)
I also think that calling this "partial credit" is wrong. There seems to be a confusion in Canvas as of what is a question and what is an exercise. A question is a single item, an exercise is multiple items. Matching contains multiple items, so it is an exercise. Each item in an exercise should be awarded marks independent of the other items. My other gripe about the way they have realised matching is that for teaching in particular it should be a one to one match. Once an item has been matched it should no loner be available for other matches. This approach encourages discovery learning and better reflects the way matching used to be done in the classroom with cut up bits of paper. It means that a student can approach the exercise by completing the answers they are sure of, thus narrowing down the choices for the items they are unsure of. There seems to be very little pedagogy put into the design of these exercises.
I am losing patience with Canvas in so many ways!
I agree. I have read dozens of complaints about this inexcusable defect in Canvas. I am relatively new to Canvas. It was my district's decision to go with this LMS. As of today, I am completely underwhelmed. Canvas is exhausting!
Is it so difficult to give partial credit options for matching questions? I think not.
I have seen posts dating back two years asking for this issue to be solved. It is time to fix this defect.
Could not agree more. Just spent 4 hours correcting for that in a class of 400+ students. Ridiculous in deed. And not even pedagogically sound.
Classic quizzes still returns partial scores for matching questions. I finally gave up on New Quizzes. I think there are still some bugs to be worked out.
It's now 2021 and I just tried new quizzes for the first time. Spent a lot of time creating a quiz that will be taken and retaken until mastery... only to find this same problem and no solution! Generally I like Canvas, but this is absurd.
December 2021 and still no solution. Why is this "solved"?
