Currently New Quizzes does not populate the teacher's "To Do" with a notice that a quiz has been taken. This has made it a No-Go for me. Is there any plan to update New Quizzes so teachers will be informed when a quiz has been taken?
This will determine whether it makes sense for me to begin using New Quizzes or to start prepping for a return to pen-and-paper tests.

Hi @William42,
There's currently a feature idea requesting to add quizzes created with the New Quizzes tool to the teacher's To Do list when quizzes are submitted (New Quizzes: Dashboard To Do). If you'd like to support the idea, give it a rating and/or comment on it.

If a teacher has any essay, short answer, or any question that requires them to manually grade it, they are not able to tell which test is ungraded. It does not show up in the teacher To-Do List. When you access Speedgrader, all tests are automatically marked as graded. The only way the teacher can locate ungraded tests is by checking each and every student's test. Teachers do not have time to check every test multiple times. Until this feature is fixed, I can not recommend New Quizzes to any teacher that gives test with any manually graded questions. Checking 90-120 students for each test and multiple times is just not realistic.
The suggestion for this has been in there for 2 years. Is there an update on progress?

I am currently having this QUIZ problem with my students. The quizzes are not showing up in my To Do List. I have a few quizzes that do show up, but I have more that don't. I have Classic Quizzes that don't show up and New Quizzes that don't show up. Can you tell me if there is a solution to this problem?
This is still an issue in year 2022 for my classes. I'm hoping this gets fixed as my students do not all turn in their work at the same time so there is no efficient way to grade it if it doesn't show up in the to do list. This means I cannot use the New Quiz format. This means I cannot leave "Grading Notes" which I use as an answer key. The New format also allows you to use editing tools like different fonts, font colors and highlighting. That's useful when giving feedback. I'm pretty amazed that in any time past the year 2000, we wouldn't have those basic features, but here we are. I'm coming form Moodle which runs rings around Canvas in terms of features. It was just harder to use.
I also like the new question types that the new format has.
I'm just as frustrated with New Quizzes as everyone else, but I do have a work-around to get the old quizzes to show up in the To-do List. Usually, I give an automatically graded test to my students and enter scores into my gradebook program (which does not communicate with Canvas) and then I want to leave the test open for any student that missed it. What I do is add a dummy essay question right at the top. Usually, the question will say something like "write today's date" and I make it worth zero points. Canvas will send me a to-do because it has to be manually graded, but since it is the first question all I have to do is type a zero in the score and it's done. New quizzes will not alert you to grade it even if there is a question that needs manual grading. This is a glaring issue. One thing that just boggles my mind about Canvas software is the SLOW speed of updates. On a scale of Canvas to iTunes, how often do you prefer updates to your software?
Was this featured removed? Canvas is no longer populating my Dashboard To Do list with notices of completed "New Quizzes."
Agreed. When will "new" quizzes show up in our to-do list. This is really frustrating because in our district we are encouraged to use "new" quizzes. Yet, so difficult to grade and distinguish who still needs to be graded. PLEASE enable these to show up in our to-do list!
I just noticed this myself when I gave an Essay Exam. I knew the students took the exam, but it didn't show up in my To Do list to grade. I had to go into the Grade Book, go to the assignment, and click on the ellipsis to access Speed Grader. I know you can also go into Build to get to the Moderate page, then click on the student attempt to grade as well.
This issue needs to be addressed. For faculty teaching multiple classes with multiple assignments with different due dates, if an assignment doesn't show up in the To Do panel, it will be easy to forget to grade something. Does anybody know if this behavior in New Quizzes will change?
