Can I get notified whenever a comment is posted in a discussion? I'm using a discussion post for students to ask questions about an assignment, so that they can all see the answers, but remembering to CHECK the discussion in case they posted is proving harder - any advice?
Thanks
Jane Bunting

Is there a way to only get a notification if someone responds to your post? I do not want to get notifications when all of my students submit comments, only when they reply to my posts.
Howdy Jane @m_j_bunting ,
Yes, you can get notified when a comment is posted in a discussion. If you reply to the discussion forum, usually you are automatically subscribed to the forum and depending how you have set up your notifications- you should receive notice.
How do I reply to a discussion as a student? [same way to reply as instructor]
If you haven't added a reply to a discussion, then you would subscribe to the discussion forum. How do I subscribe to a discussion as an instructor?
Also, you might want to check your notification settings. https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/doc-10624 [basically same way as instructor, but you'd look specifically at the "Discussions" area]

Howdy,
When you create the discussion topic, you should automatically be subscribed to the thread. In your user settings, click "Notifications" and then under "Discussion Post" you set it to how frequently you'd like to have the notification sent and by which contact method.
How do I set my Canvas notification preferences as an instructor?
Cheers,
Chad
Thanks all, very helpful!
