[ARCHIVED] Notification vs. 'Subscription' settings?

Do my Canvas Notification preferences override my subscription preferences in the discussion forums?

I don't want to receive email or push notifications for every 'Discussion' or 'Discussion Post' activity occurring across all my courses, but I would like to be notified for discussions I have subscribed to cross several courses.

When I turn off all discussion notifications at the Profile level, though, I seem to cut off any and all notification triggered by forums I've subscribed to.

Could my global notification settings be the issue--or do I need to look at something else as perhaps being the issue?

Hello  @juan_leon1 ‌,

   I'm not sure what the issue is. Are you getting notifications for discussions you aren't subscribed to? If so, what did you have your notification settings set as? Also, please note the descriptions of the notification settings below:

   Based on the default settings, you should not receive a notification for a new discussion post that you are not subscribed to. Did you edit your settings and set the "Discussions" notification preference to 'Notify me right away', 'Send daily summary', or 'Send weekly summary'? If you did, that would be why you are getting a notification for discussions you are not subscribed to, because each set notification preference will automatically apply to all of your courses. (As explained here: How do I set my Canvas notification preferences as an instructor?‌) Additionally, if you are using the Canvas Teacher App, notification preferences set inside the app will override preferences set in the notifications app. 

If this didn't help, you might want to clarify your question.
