[ARCHIVED] Peer reviews for assignments with no submission?

Is it possible to create an assignment with peer reviews when there is no student submission to Canvas?  I use Flipgrid to have students create videos and comment on their peers' videos, and I would like to randomly assign peer reviews for them. However, the assignment as I created it is "submitting: nothing", so it doesn't seem like peer reviews would work, as there is no work inside Canvas for the students to review.

Would it work to create the assignment as a "Mark done" assignment and then set up the peer review settings?  At least that way there would be some record of students finishing something and reviews could be assigned (in theory).

I will be happy to help answer this. Currently, Peer reviews require a submission for automatic assigning as explained here https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-automatically-assign-peer-reviews-for-a... but you can manually assign them and they should still be able to reply and post comments if needed.

I have an assignment that I want students to peer-edit even if they haven't submitted their own draft. I've manually assigned peer-edits for them to complete but they're landing on an "Access Denied" page when they click the link they received via email. When they access the assignment within Canvas, the peer-review reads "none assigned." Is there another way to override the submission requirement? Thanks.

My students are having this same problem: Peer reviews that I manually assigned to students who did not turn their assignment in can not see any peer reviews to do - it says "non assigned" for them.

I am an ID, and one of my faculty came to me with this same issue: manually assigned peer reviews cannot be accessed by the student until they have made a submission to the assignment. In digging around, I found that the current Canvas guide on manually assigning peer reviews clearly states that students must make a submission (first bullet in Notes at the top):

My faculty insists that for years she has been able to manually assign peer reviews, and non-submitters were able to access and complete their assigned reviews. So the big question: when and why was this change implemented?

I have a faculty who want students to peer review their classmates' oral presentations. Currently, we are having students submit a blank page submission just so it will trigger the peer reviews. If non-submissions worked before with peer reviews, we need to have this function back!

I have a similar issue and was hoping there was a way for Instructure to create a 'threaded' assessment where you can choose multiple submission points depending on the structure of the assessment and a 'final' submission point. 

Something like;

Step 1: Student (1) uploads (not submits for marking) a presentation (to be stored in a doc repository) by xxxx date (thread 1 triggers - this to presentation to be  automatically allocated to a peer)

Step 2: Peer (2) must create and submit a review by xx date (thread 2 - triggers this to be submitted as complete by Peer (2) and sent back to Student (1) by xx date, including original document + review).

Step 3: Student (1) then responds with a critical appraisal of their own work in response to Peers (2) review and then submits the presentation for final marking. (final thread for final submission).

If this can be created, game changer.
