[ARCHIVED] Replies sent from a phone?

I did some research, and I now understand that instructor replies to student messages are stored on the Student's inbox, rather than the Instructor's sent items. (I know they are "conversations," but this is endlessly confusing to both our faculty and students.)
However, where does an instructor reply to a student's message end up when the instructor replies from his email client on his phone? (Not using the Canvas app.)
I've been searching and searching, and cannot find an instructor's replies to a student's message anywhere; not in the students messages, not in the instructor's messages.
Are there any particular places I should look? And are there any particular notification preferences that should be set for replies from a phone email client?
