[ARCHIVED] Speedgrader: hiding grades and comments until whole group is graded

Hello community!

When I grade a large group of students, I often like to wait, before I communicate grades and comments, until I've assessed all of the copies.

When grading on speedgrader, it seems that students can access their grade, the rubric I used, as well as my comments as soon as I save them.

Is there a way to keep the grades, rubrics, and comments saved, but hidden from students until all copies are graded, and then to release information to all students at once?

Canvas support has this

but I am a little upset right now -- it appears that students are able to access not only the rubric I am using, which is fine, but the saved comments I had created, which is not. I am talking to canvas support about this.

Did you receive a response? I have a teacher whose student saw her comments even though the assignment is hidden.

My problem was that the rubric had some of my "form" comments stored -- those comments that you save and copy /paste because they are needed on many papers. It turned out that these comments traveled with the rubric -- a problem, because I had not edited out all identifying information. A years-old thread on Canvas suggested that they have known about this problem for some time, but have never fixed it. I would up abandoning canvas rubrics -- now I just use my own word documents. 

Is that what happened to your teacher? I worry sometimes that comments might be available on exams/papers before I finish grading a set, but as far as I know that hasn't happened yet.  But I also worry that the "test student" function isn't telling me what I need to know.

Yes, that is what happened. A teacher had the assignment hidden, but her rubric is in the comments section which students see immediately even before she unhid the assignment. It is a bug in Canvas that should be fixed.
