I have an upcoming course and have sent up a link for students to enroll. However, when they do so, their names are not displayed under People or above their posts in discussions. Instead, the Name field is literally empty, except for one student, whose "name" is a long number:
Some of the students' names are, however, visible when I click on their profile. I've contacted Canvas support but am yet to hear back. Has anyone encountered anything like this? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Hi @fiadotau , just curious - is this is a Canvas free Teacher account? Or is this a school account that in which you have a Canvas admin who can set up the students' accounts? Are you able to edit the student information?
Hi @Rebecca Penina Simon, it is indeed a free account and I cannot manually edit the student information. I have used this account for other courses in the past, and have never encountered this issue before. (I did have a problem with long numbers instead of some students' names, but that wasn't too much of an inconvenience because when they posted in discussions, their actual names would still be displayed.)
I have heard other instructors mention similar things about the student accounts. Unfortunately, there's a limit as to what I can do to help since I am a Canvas admin of paid Canvas accounts, so I'm not experiencing those types of issues. I recommend that you contact Canvas Support ASAP either by submitting a ticket via the service cloud or calling them. Please reply if you have additional questions.
